"Jacob I think you ought to come back to the hospital"
"Why missing me already?" He joked hearing the silent pause, "Your mums been admitted"
"Is she okay?" The panic rising in his voice, as his stomach churned.
"Yes she will be, just get here".
"Mrs Masters" she spoke moving closer to her, Mrs Beauchamp What are you doing here?" She asked confused refusing to look at her fully.
"I'm your docotor unless you would rather I didn't treat you".
"No I'm confused Doctor?"
"That doesn't matter now let me take a look at you" Connie spoke softly, "Jacobs on his way" she spoke.
"How long have you been together?" She asked flinching as she moved her arm.
"Looks broken it will need to do a CT scan as we cant do an X-ray as your pregnant, and you will need an echo your heart isn't beating correctly. "The baby?" The worry etched in her voice, as Finally she met Connie's gaze.
"We will check baby is okay, Your in the best place" she spoke curtly ignoring her question.
"You rang Jacob? Not Pete?" She looked physically terrified.
" No Jacob, he's noted as your next of kin" she finished.

"I saw you both " she spoke
"Saw us what mum?" Jacob spoke moving around the curtain.
"Together" she hissed.
"When what?" He gawped at her. "I followed her from school to hers, it's clear your together that why you left makes sense now".
"Are you serious mum if you think that your as deluded as him, Connie helped me and things just developed. But she was never the reason I left she was the reason I wasn't forced to sleep in the park rather than come home. She's the reason I'm finally happy, and What now your going to use it against her against us, well too late she's changed jobs and I'm no longer a student so nothing you do or say will make any difference.
Do you know what she is the best thing that's ever happened to me, I'm happy so happy. Happy for the first time in aslong as I can remember, i haven't even thought about you or home for weeks" he snapped.

"I've thought about you" she sighed. "I'm glad your happy".
"I love her and we're happy, I came here to see you after everything and your still being funny with me. Look at you "I don't need to ask if he did this, after you gave him another chance. After you protected him after he left me in a hospital bed, made me out to be a liar, you told everyone I was a liar and even now can't you just be nice to me".

"I'm not I was just suprised, I ...just It was a shock, being here is a shock. Don't worry I haven't told anyone I wouldn't tell him, I didn't mean anything bad I just....I'm sorry it's all such a mess" her hand moving to her growling bump as she looked at Jacob sadly.
"Mrs Masters we need to get you to CT" Connie spoke looking to Jacob and stroking his arm softly reassuring him.
"Can you stay" she asked reaching out for him watching as he hesitated.
"you could wait in my office" connie smiled at him and he nodded.

She watched them both as Connie guided him into her office it was clear they were good together. She had always thought their relationship was a little odd. He seemed to care what she thought more than most and she was very present in his life in the last few months, but she assumed it was a crush and she was an attentive teacher.
She had worried she knew things when he was at the hospital and she had brought him in, after the fight at the school she knew he had trusted her but she really hadn't guessed it. Not until she had seen them together outside her house, but now watching them she was amazed she hadn't put it together sooner.
She hated it that he was confiding in her and yet she sighed heavily, she loved him and she was keeping him safe making him happy, something she had failed for a long time to do.

She couldn't leave Pete she couldn't, even if right now the thought of going home to him made her stomach churn.
She had pushed his buttons she had been going on and on about the baby , getting over excited now her bump was clearly visible.
She knew it was a shock, she knew he hadn't been too keen to have a child he had never wanted Jacob around. She had hoped a baby  a part of him he would be different but most of the time he seemed indifferent.

They had been trying to make it work but he seemed to be drinking more and his anger seemed to get so much worse when he had. Most of the time he was fine things were good but just sometimes she saw his scary side, and she felt the sick feeling of how Jacob must have felt. He never used to be like this with her but it was as if Jacob gone he no longer had someone to take it out on and so it had become her when he got frustrated.

This morning she hadn't felt well but he had wanted to go out for lunch and she had complained about feeling sick, her chest had been tight she felt dizzy and she had told him she wanted to lie down. She had seen that glint for a moment before he pushed backwards screaming at her, moaning the baby was to blame, that she was an ungrateful bitch. It was her fault she had argued back as his anger grew he pushed her again, she felt dizzy loosing her footing as he stepped closer and she buckled. Loosing her balance and she fell backwards down the stairs she saw the look on his face as she fell it had scared her.

He had walked over her shouting at her for being clumsy and stormed off, it had taken her nearly an hour to get up to call for an ambulance.
If she had just gone or hadn't argued back he hadn't meant to, he had just got angry and she had been clumsy it wasn't really his fault.
She closed her eyes stopping the tears from falling as the lift door shut, the image of him walking over her and leaving her in a heap at the bottom of the stairs. That was the moment that bothered her the most, that and if he turned up and Jacob was here.
She just for once wanted things to be easy, things with them to be normal, she did love him she just wished he could drink less, be less angry all the time. Seeing Jacob it made her realize how much he had grown up how much she missed him, she couldn't help the sadness that he seemed to no longer need her....When she was realizing she needed him.
