   Y/N'S POV

"Loki, why do you insist on reading all those books all the time?"

Loki rolled his eyes, and I laughed saying,"I'm kidding, Loki. Reading is fundamental. Where are the pictures in that book?"

Loki shook his head and said,"Real books don't have pictures, N/N. You know this."

I smiled at Loki and asked him,"How does it feel to not be trying to kill everyone every day?"

Loki shrugged and said,"I've had better experiences and why don't you try reading, Y/N?"

I argued,"Because I can't read, and I never learned how to. Well, properly."

Loki laughed, but he noticed I did not laugh along with him.

He cleared his throat and asked me,"Are you serious, Y/N?"

I nodded and sighed saying,"Yes. I understand some things when I read it, but I struggle with the longer things get. I know I'm stupid. You don't have to remind me, Loki."

Loki pulled me in for a side hug and said,"I don't think that, Y/N. You're very smart, and I could continue to teach you the next time you have time to spare. Yes?"

I smiled and hugged Loki back, then Steve walked into the room. I immediately straightened up and Loki noticed, yet he did not say a word.

He just went back to reading his book, and Steve asked me,"Have you seen Bucky?"

I shook my head and asked,"Who's Bucky?"

Steve laughed and smiled at me, before Bucky just happened to walk in.

He said,"You know who I am, Y/N. Don't act like you don't know. I'm your best friend. After Loki."

I said in a playful manner,"That's funny, but Loki and I aren't even best friends. We're just acquaintances. Thor is my best friend."

Thor yelled from the kitchen,"AH, YES! I AM LADY Y/N'S BFF!!"

I giggled, and Loki said,"Y/N, don't encourage him. I must go."

Bucky said,"Yeah. I better get some sleep. Night, Y/N. Night, Steve."

Bucky headed up the stairs, while Loki headed out the door. I wonder where he was going, but I didn't ask. It was just Steve and I. Steve sat down beside me.

Steve asked me,"So, how have you been?"

I said,"Fine. Did you hear what Loki said to me?"

Steve shook his head and took my hand saying,"No. Do you want to talk about it?"

I looked down at our hands and Steve took that as a sign that I didn't want him holding my hand, so he let go of my hand. I would have taken his hand back, but I just thought it would make me look desperate or something. I don't know.

  I asked him,"Do you think I'm average?"

Steve said,"Of course not. You're more than average, sweetheart. There's no reason why you should think any less of yourself. If this is about your past again, don't let it get the best of you. You are smart, whether you learned to read or not. I know it's about that. It's okay. I think it's a good thing that Loki's trying to teach you. You'll learn."

I smiled at Steve and he gazed at me for a minute, before he asked me,"Are...uh...you and Loki..."

I chuckled and said,"No. No. Loki's my best friend and nothing more. I love him, but in a friendly way. Why, Captain?"

Steve looked me in the eyes and admitted to me,"Well, I would like to take you out to dinner one day. Show you that I don't care about what you can or can't do. What would you say?"

"You'd really want to take me to dinner? Me?"

He nodded and said,"Yes, if you'd allow me to. I wouldn't do it, if you were not for it. I would never want to put you in a position where you feel forced or obligated to come with me."

A few tears fell down my face, and I took Steve's hand saying,"Okay, Captain. Sure. Steve, you won't regret this."

Steve kissed my forehead and sent me a rare kind of smile saying,"I know, Y/N. I know I won't."
