"Father, I want to take back my position as empress elect, I want it back" Lei Yue demanded, she wasn't asking to take it back, she demanded it because to her, it was rightfully hers after all her name was the one written in the imperial edict.

CHAPTER 56- The Emperor's Grace

Even the guards on hearing this statement felt their ears vibrate and their hearts shake due to the severity of what had just been spoken.

"Do this young mistress thinks the emperor is someone that she can do as she pleases with? she is even lucky that the emperor hasn't discovered the Lei's lies yet" this was the thought going through of every guards' present.

The earlier gentle gaze of the General turned stern "Yue Lei have you lost your senses"

"But Father" Yue Lei eye's turned red and tears where threatening to fall, she was really a good actor and knew how to gain pity, it was the same tactics she used on Tao Shi and combined with her threatening family background the poor scholar stood no chance and thus he made up his mind to protect her and provide for her despite not truly loving her, but Tao Shi was a loyal man and would have never thought of betraying.

"I don't see anything wrong with what Yuer just said, after all the empress elect title was meant for her from the beginning" Madam Lei decided to support her daughter, after all if her daughter becomes empress her status will be elevated as well.

"Have you all lost your minds? have you forgotten that what we have done is treason and if our lie is found out, nine generations of our family paying the price might not even satisfy the emperor's blood lust. Have you all also forgotten that the emperor still holds a grudge against me"

"father if the emperor really wants to take revenge on you then I see no reason why he hasn't yet, maybe he just isn't as strong as the rumors say he is or maybe he doesn't even hold a grudge against you" Lei Yue injected

"I have told you before but you didn't believe me so I will tell you this again, the reason why the emperor has not destroyed this manor yet and will still not do so in the future is because he holds a huge debt that's yet to be paid to my mother" Madam Lei confidently said.

Frankly speaking the general had wondered why the emperor hasn't wiped them out yet and even if the general had always thought that it was because the emperor wanted to slowly torture him which he was perfectly succeeding in doing since he can't remember when last he didn't sleep with his eyes open, the general believed that couldn't be the emperor's only reason for sparing the Lei family but despite knowing that he still couldn't believe what his wife had told him some months ago and this is probably because she said it in passing.
