book: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

author: Stephen Chbosky

blurb: The critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky, Perks follows observant "wallflower" Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

review: I wasn't planning on reading this book today, but I just felt like escaping for a few hours and just reading a book in one sitting. I did properly connect with Charlie in many ways, the way we both view the world is very similar and it was nice to read a book about a teenager which sounded so authentic and true.

I think it was really interesting that it dealt with harder topics to talk about like sexual assault and feeling isolated from everyone. It was really well written in the sense that it perfectly captured the voice of Charlie. Overall I think it was a really good book to just binge read and adore while you're reading it. I think it's the best coming-of-age story I've read.
