*note: this is situated in an alternate universe where sword/master relations do not matter. however, saniwa will still be addressed as saniwa although she doesnt have the role of saniwa/sage in this chapter

warning: i hope my writing for this chapter isn't so bad till it makes you want to vomit blood lmao. forgive me, im still a noob at writing fantasy stories.

"That's nonsense! Me, marrying him?" Saniwa hollered, her eyes widening as she glared at her parents with fury. "This has got to be a joke. Why me?"

"We do not have a choice, you have been chosen by the Moon God himself," her mother explained calmly. "You will be his wife and that decision is final, we have no right to disobey the God in which we people of this village worship."

Gritting onto her teeth, Saniwa shook her head in refusal. "I don't care if it's ordered by the Moon God but being forced to marry him is out of the question."

"Silence," Saniwa's father spoke up, looking over at his daughter sternly. "In two weeks' time, the Moon God will finally be showing himself to the public for the first time in a century. He has never found a wife since he existed but this time, he finally made a decision. We, as followers of the Moon God, have to fulfill his request which is for you to marry him."

"But-"

"The decision is final," Saniwa's mother repeated again, her gaze softening this time round as she spoke. "I can't bear losing my child but I have no liberty to disobey the Moon God."

Letting out an exasperated sigh, Saniwa ran a hand through her hair in frustration. "I need some time to let this sink in." Following her words, Saniwa took off on her heels and exited the door. Her parents did not utter a word as they allowed her to leave, completely understanding the feelings their daughter was experiencing.

The situation was beyond uncomprehensible for Saniwa. Just earlier that day, she came back home from her usual mundane duties, only to have such a shocking piece of news being broken to her.

She did not understand the Moon God's decision one bit. Even if she had comprehended the situation she was placed in, she couldn't understand why the Moon God chose her to be his legitimate wife. There was only one word to describe this entire scenario and that word is ridiculous.

Since birth, never did she worship the God like the other villagers and neither did she gain an interest in him like everyone else. To her, he was merely a holy figure whom people in her village respect and nothing else. For as long as she could remember, she was never too involved in rituals and practices to worship the Moon God.

Trudging along the pathway, Saniwa took in a deep breath. That moment, all she needed was to settle down at her favourite place and put her mind at ease.

She weaved her way through the forests located behind the village, where countless trees loomed over her. The crunching of the dried leaves Saniwa stepped on resonated throughout the quiet forest, giving off an eerie vibe.

Residing behind the forest was what mattered to Saniwa most. As she emerged from the dark woods, her nostrils met the scent of fresh nectar and displayed right before her was an entire field of mellow grass and various species of flowers. This exact spot was her favourite place on earth.

She stepped into the flower bed, breathing in the fresh scent the flowers emitted. A smile crept up onto her face as she managed to get rid of the negativity which she had just experienced earlier as she took in the breathtaking view right before her eyes.
