Dress Shopping

"No not that one" Nova says as I step out with yet another dress.

"Novs, this is stupid, why can't i just find one at home?"

"Lacey Ginette Wright. I swear to god, if you don't stop complaining I will take away all of your root beer"

My eyes widen at her threat.

"You wouldn't"

"Oh I would." She says crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes at me.

"Bitch" I mumble under my breath.

"I love you too!" She says with a smile.

I head back into the dressing room and try on the next dress. This one was pink, it went down to my knees and was tight in the bodice but poufy from the waist down.

I step out and twirl for Nova and April.

"Nah" Nova says

"Nova!!" I whine

"Listen, I'm just trying to make sure you look hot! Don't take that tone with me!"

"Pinks not really your color" April says.

I roll my eyes and go back into the dressing room.

I had been trying on dresses for the past hour and my arms were getting tired.

I pull the last dress off it's hanger and put it on. I was a skin tight black gown that touched the floor. It had thin straps and a corset bodice, with jewels encrusted on the neckline.

I step out and look at April and Nova who were both staring at me in silence.

"So?" I ask when neither of them say anything.

"I mean you look great." April says

"But?"

"But it's just not you" Nova adds.

I hang my head and pout. I hated trying on clothes.

Suddenly Maya comes running up with a beautiful white gown in her arms.

"Guys I found the perfect dress for Lacey!"

She hands it to me and I roll my eyes before heading back into the dressing room.

I strip out of the black gown and step into the white one. I glance at myself in the mirror. The dress was gorgeous. It was so simple, yet so elegant. It was a pearl white, that flowed out at the bottom and was off the shoulder. It shaped my body perfectly and hugged me in all the right places.

"Damn" is all Nova says as I step out of the dressing room.

"Wow" April chimes in.

Maya just looks at me with a giant smile on her face.

"I told you! It's perfect!" She squeals.

"What do you think Novs?" I ask

"That's the one. Do you like it?"

"I love it."

The girls all smile at me.

"You're going to look beautiful Lace" April says hugging me.

"Now we just need to find you a mask!" Maya says

"A mask?"

"Yeah it's a masquerade themed dance" Nova says

"You really don't pay much attention to dances do you?" Maya asks

I shake my head.

"She's to busy drowning herself in books to pay attention to anything that goes on at school" Nova says

I glare at her and she sticks her tongue out at me.

"Come on, get changed so we can go! We need to find masks!" April says as she grabs her dress and heads to the register.

I quickly head back into the dressing room and change out of the gown and back into my jeans and T-shirt, before grabbing the gown and heading to the front of the store to pay.

"You're going to rock this dance Lace" Maya says to me.

"I think it's very cliche to go with just a regular mask, find something unique" Nova says scanning through the different styles of masks.

April had picked up a gold and black mask to go with the golden gown she bought.
Nova had a royal blue gown with a blue mask.
Maya had a black mask to match the black dress she had picked out.

And now they were all helping me to find a mask.

"Oh what about this one?" April says holding up a white mask with gold detailing.

I shake my head

"How about this?" Maya asks showing me a red mask with white trim

I shake my head again.

I was being picky, I wanted it to be perfect.

"This is it" Nova says holding up a pearl white mask that had feathers around the outside and some small designs.

"That's beautiful" I say taking the mask from her.

"This is definitely the one" Nova says

I nod my head and we all head to the front to pay for our masks.

"What next?" I ask as we leave the store

Nova and Maya both squeal at the same time.

"Shoes!"

I roll my eyes and April just laughs.

"Okay so pumps are out of the question for me" Nova says patting her stomach.

"How about some black ballerina flats?" April asks.

Nova shrugs.

"I guess those will do." Nova replies.

"Lace, it's your turn." Maya says turning to me.

She was holding a pair of black heels in her hand.

"Don't forget, it has to be white" Nova says

"Yes mother, I know" I reply sarcastically

Nova just rolls her eyes at me.

"Ooo Lacey these would be perfect!" April says handing me a pair of white pumps. They were simple, yet elegant. Just like my dress.

"These are great!"  I respond taking the heels from her.

April has a look of accomplishment on her face.

"Great so everyone's ready?" Nova asks

"Yup!" Maya says

"Can't wait!" April pipes in

"It's going to be a blast! I just have to text Benji and let him know what I'm wearing."

I pull out my phone and text Benji.

Me- I finally got my dress and mask for the dance!

Sir Benjamin- I can't wait to see it!

Me- make sure to wear white!

Sir Benjamin- sounds good Lace! Can't wait to see you in the dress! Send a pic?

Me- noooo you have to wait and see it 😉

Sir Benjamin- fine, be that way.

Me- oh I will....

Sir Benjamin- ugh. You're lucky I love you.

Me- 😝

Me- I'll see you Saturday at 6!

Sir Benjamin- 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I put my phone away and continue to walk through the mall with the girls. I was actually excited about this dance.
