"Mommy! Look! I'm doing it!" Maya yelled out to Alex excitedly as she continued to execute her almost perfect backwards strokes in the pool.
"Look at you go baby!" Alex replied back encouraging from her spot on one of the lounge chairs that were situated next to Christian's pool. Latoya floated beside Maya on her watermelon slice shaped floatie she had forced Alex to get for her earlier that week. Life in Christian's house had been a dream for her and Maya but not so much for Alex. She was too busy soaking in the reality of the situation that they were all in.
Latoya looked towards Alex, who had a very serious look on her face, and laughed.
"Girl will you stop with all your worrying already? You're over there looking constipated."
"Well excuse me if I'm the one showing concern for the situation were in right now."
"Concern about what? Everything is okay! The doctors said they're going to wake Christian up in a few days, we're all living in luxury, and Damon can't touch none of us from here."
"How do you know that for sure momma?"
"These fancy rich people for bodyguards following us all over the damn place! Ain't no way Damon twig built self is getting anywhere near you, me, or Maya."
It was true. Alex had come clean to the family a few days after the incident had happened that it was more than likely Damon who started all of this. Ever since then they've had extra protection around the three of them in and out of the house. They even went the extra mile to get a new security system to keep the house extra secure.
"I'm just worried ma. Bodyguards aren't about to keep us forever and at some point we'll have to come face to face with Damon."
"You mean face to jail cell bars. You're acting like the police aren't out here looking for him."
"Momma... were black. You know just as much as I know that they aren't putting any real effort into finding this man."
"That could be true but I chose to have faith. God will work it all out for us in the end. Don't forget it's the same God that got you away from Damon once, and now look at you. Living in a mansion on your rich boyfriends money. Tuh, what a faithful God we serve."
Alex smiled and shook her head at her mom's silliness. The backdoor of the house slid open and Joyce came into view.
"Hi gramma!" Maya called out while turning back over on her stomach.
"Did you see me?! I can swim on my back now!"
"I did see you little miss Maya and might I say you're better than Micheal Phelps himself?"
"I know that already gamma. I'm gonna be the best swimmer in the whole wide world!"
"Yes you are baby and your new swimming instructor is gonna get you all the way to the Olympics."
"Swimming instructor?" Alex questioned, looking up at Joyce. "I appreciate the kindness Momma J but you didn't have to do that for us. You're already doing more than enough."
"Alex will you stop being silly? You're family now, getting someone to teach Maya how to swim is nothing." Joyce said in a almost scolding tone.
"That's what I been telling her but the girl won't listen Joyce." Latoya said before taking another sip of her mimosa filled glass.
"Why am I always the bad guy?" Alex asked.
"You're not baby, don't worry. I know you have good intentions." Joyce said as she pushed a loose strand of Alex's hair behind her ear.
