America woke up on his couch with a bad headache. It wasn't really his couch, but he still called it that. It was his roommates since they bought the couch and would get mad whenever America referred to it as his.

Speaking of his roommate, Akira walked into the room and sighed. "You got drunk again."

America shrugged. "Probably." He stood up and stretched his black feathery wings. The first time they met, Akira said they looked pretty, like an angel. He was sort of right about that.

"So," Akira leaned on the edge of the coffee table, looking up at America. "Is your dad still trying to kidnap me?"

"Probably." America almost sighed. His father had been rushing to get as many born demons as possible recently, so America hid Akira. Akira was somewhat of a family friend. His father owed Britan something, which is how America became best friends with the human.

Akira was definitively a born demon, or at least something special. Either way, America took care to make sure Akira never stepped into moonlight without a disguise, or even in general. America made sure Aki was safe from his father.

From the EU.

"Have you heard anything from Emiko?"

America shook his head. America didn't have the heart to tell him what happened to his twin. If Akira did, he would want to see her, which would be near impossible for the two to go undetected.

Akira sighed and grabbed some instant noodles. "I miss cooking."

"I can get you ingredients," America smiled brightly at him. Akira hadn't seemed happy for a while, so maybe cooking would get him out of his funk.

"By 'get' you mean 'steal'. Plus, Britan will be looking for us."

"Don't care. I'm getting them," America threw a pillow at Akira, which missed and hit the toaster.

"You are going to get the wrong ones."

"Than you'll come with me!" America said cheerfully, smiling even wider.

"What? No," Akira nocked over the instant noodles in surprise. America always made sure he never left the house at night and now he's asking to go shopping with him?

"We could go at noon."

"You have huge, black dove wings. You are going to stand out. Plus, the sunlight hurts you."

"Ok, then we're going at night," America said. Akira stayed quiet afterward. America looked over and he was pacing. America stood up and placed his hands on Akira's shoulders. "We'll be fine. It's not even a full moon, just a crescent."

Akira turned to look at America with a worried expression. "But Britan-"

"Only comes out on full moons. We'll be safe."

------

"That is not the right brand. Look carefully."

"It doesn't matter, it'll still taste great," America said with a hint of desperation in his voice. He and Akira had been looking for ingredients in the closed supermarket for over an hour, and he was getting tired of trying to find the right combination of foreign lettering on boxes of broth.

Akira had come from an unnamed island, so he spoke their language. It was odd that the island didn't have a name since it was such a big place, but America assumed the EU hadn't found a country for it. NATO could be training an angel for it, but that rarely happened.

"America, I haven't been outside in ages, let me take my time," Akira snapped. America sighed and went back to the soup section. While he was walking over there, he checked the cloth napkin he had placed on the floor. It was creased a little, but only because of him. America smiled to himself and went back to looking through soup.

Suddenly, a loud crash could be heard throughout the store. It sounded like breaking glass.

"Akira!" America yelled out, hoping Akira would hear him and come towards him. The cloth was swirling in the air, not a good sign. He ran towards the windows, hoping that Akira wasn't near them.

Akira was there, unfortunately.

America pulled the human behind him as he faced a short, eight-legged demon who looked very familiar.

"Aussie? Is that you?"

"America? What're you doing- wait," Australia looked at the trembling human clinging to America like a small child. "Are you keeping that?"

"Please don't tell dad."

Aussie looked up at her brother, then at a trembling Akira. "I'm sorry, America." She lunged at the winged demon and tried to bite his arm. America threw her off and growled. Aussie shoved him and grabbed Akira. Despite her height, she was still able to quickly scuttle away while holding the screaming human.

"Shit," America muttered as Aussie disappeared behind the corner. It would be useless to chase after her, America would never catch up. "Fuck, Aki I'm so sorry," America whispered even quieter.

Then he began to cry.
