Song for this chapter: Play Play

By J Hus and Burna Boy

"Why are you still here?" I question, very softly pressing down on the keys in random order. He walks over to me, dumping his bag next to the piano and then taking the seat next to me almost pushing me off the side.

"Hey!" I protest, but he presses down on the keys, playing a soft melody.

"Do you know this song?" He asks as he plays Back From The Edge by James Arthur.

"Yeah." I say with a nod of my head, resulting in him starting from the beginning and singing along.

"Back from the edge, back from the dead
Back before demons took control of my head
Back to the start, back to my heart
Back to the boy who would reach for the stars
Oh, he would reach for the stars, yeah." He sings and then looks at me to carry on but when I don't he just continues after a dramatic roll of his eyes.

"You can take my home, you can take my clothes
You can take the drugs I have that nobody knows
You can take my watch, you can take my phone
You can take all I've got 'til I'm skin and bone
I don't want control, I can dig my own hole
I can make my bed and I can lie in it cold
'Cause I don't need heat, I've been burnin' in hell
But now I'm back with my own story to tell." His voice honestly sounds like heaven and I find myself wiping away non existent drool as I stare at his gorgeous self singing with his eyes closed on the piano seat next to me. He sings the next chorus too and then stops, looking at me to try and get me to sing the next part and when I show no signs of doing so, he stops playing.

"Sing right now or I'll scream."

I roll my eyes but get myself ready as he begins to play the tune on the piano again.

"They don't like my lines, they don't like my songs
Except in karaoke when they're singing along
Did you see them build me up? Watch me tear myself down
With a smile on my face, I dug my grave in the ground
We all make mistakes, we're so quick to judge
It's hard to forgive when we hold onto a grudge
So turn down the heat, I've been burnin' in hell
But now I'm back with my own story to tell." I sing along, just to humour him but he stares at me as I sing - not even focusing on the notes he needs to play. I continue onto the next chorus by myself with his gaze still focused on me.

"Back from the edge, back from the dead
Back before demons took control of my head
Back to the start, back to my heart
Back to the girl who would reach for the stars
Back from the edge, back from the dead
Back from the tears that were too easily shed
Back to the start, back to my heart
Back to the girl who would reach for the stars
Who would reach for the stars." I sing.
