"Bonnie wait!" Fred called out behind her.
"Hey stop Bon, it was just a game right? He doesn't actually like her"

Bonnie stared down at her drink, tears stinging her eyes.
She felt stupid. George didn't even know she liked him. She didn't even know she liked him. Not this much. Not until right now.

"It's fine Fred, I'm fine. I'm just feeling pretty tired, I think I'm just going to head up to bed" She didn't look up from her drink. She worried that seeing Fred's face would make her tears spill over. And that's the last thing she wanted.

"Bonnie please look at me. I'll talk to him. I'm sorry I made you come to this. It was a dumb idea, all I've done is hurt you"

She shook her head, not willing to say anything because she just knew her voice would crack and give away her emotion.

"She's a friend Bon, it means nothing. Just a drunken game."

Someone behind Fred wolf whistled and he turned his head to see what was going on. Fred choked as he saw George and Katie in the corner, kissing again.
This time it wasn't part of a game.

"Bonnie lets go upstairs, quickly come on."

Fred tried to usher her up the stairs. She glanced up to see what the sudden commotion was and saw what Fred had seen.
This time she couldn't keep the tears behind her drunken eyes and they spilled down her cheeks as she ran up the stairs to her room.

Fred was following close behind, but he had forgotten that boys can't get into where the girls sleep. The stairs turned into a smooth slide that he crashed hard down onto and slid all the way back to the bottom.

Cursing, he whirled around looking for a girl he knew he and Bonnie could both trust. His eyes landed on Hermione who was chatting to Harry and Ron.
He gently pulled her away by her arm and told her the short version of what had been happening.

Hermione didn't ask questions, recognising the worried look in Fred's eyes rarely anyone saw, and climbed the stairs.
She knocked on the door to Bonnie's dorm twice, poking her head around.
"Hi Bon, Fred asked me to come check on you. He tried to himself, but the stairs wouldn't allow it obviously." She softly said.

Bonnie rushed to wipe her tears away with the back of her hand. But her face was flushed and her eyes puffy, a dead giveaway.

"Fred told me everything. I get it, I do. I've watched a boy I like, lust after other girls too and it's really, really tough."
She had perched on the side of the bed Bonnie had thrown herself on and rested a comforting hand on the crying girls arm.

Bonnie wondered just how much Fred had actually told her. Judging by how fast Hermione got up here though, she didn't think he delved into the soulmate thing. Probably just that she had a stupid schoolgirl crush on George.

"It's really ok Hermione. George hardly even knows me. He doesn't know I have feelings for him and he definitely doesn't have feelings for me too. In fact, it's more like a foolish teenage crush. It's dumb to be upset"

Hermione grew stern "It's not dumb, never say that about something you're feeling. You're having this reaction because that silly ginger down there doesn't know what he's missing yet"

Despite herself, Bonnie couldn't help but giggle at Hermione calling George a 'silly ginger'.

"Are you going to be ok?" Her face softened.

Bonnie gave her a small smile and said "I will be fine. Just need to sleep off this booze and with any luck, I'll forget it even happened"

"Alright well if you need me, I'm only down the hall ok?" Hermione gave her a quick hug and a reassuring smile and walked out.

Bonnie took a few deep breaths before getting changed into her comfiest PJ's and crawling into bed. Her world was spinning slightly when Angelina suddenly came into view.

"You scared me!" Bonnie said, startled. "I didn't even hear you come in"

"Yeah because you're drunk as a skunk Bon! But I just wanted to check on you. I saw what happened down there. And I know that probably affected you because of the whole... soulmate thing, you know"

"Yes Ange, I do know" Bonnie sighed. "Thanks for checking on me, but I'll be alright I'm sure."

She rolled over, facing away from her and closed her eyes as she heard Angelina start getting ready for bed too.

The sounds of the party were quieting down as people made their way back to their rooms. They sounded like they'd had fun.
She silently cursed Fred for making her go to this stupid party. But also wished that she could have had fun, like everyone else seemed too.
