Chapter 38 - Three Hours

Tw - Miscarriage mentions.

"Miss Naylor, you're bleeding." The nurse says.

"I know thank you." Jac replies, trying to keep herself steady.

"It's really bad." The nurse replies.

"I think I'm having a miscarriage." She says, as she continues to operate on Hannah.

"Should I call Mr Madani in?" The nurse asks, looking at Jac.

"No I'm fine." She replies "I will finish this operation."

"But we've got another three hours."

"Then for three hours, I will stand here and bleed okay?" Jac says "I will finish this operation."

"But that's putting your baby at risk."

"It's horrible having to choose isn't it?" Jac says, looking at the nurse "But that's what I'm doing right now."

"Right now, Hannah is the life I need to save and not this baby's okay?"

"But-" the nurse starts.

"There are no buts in my theatre." Jac replies, angrily "Do you understand?!"

"Yeah." The nurse says, as she looks down.

"Good, then let's continue." Jac says, clearly uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry Miss Naylor, but I need to call Mr. Madani." The nurse replies, grabbing the phone.

"If you don't put that phone down right now, I will fire you!" Jac shouts "I am trying to save, a baby's life and with you doing everything you can to distract me - I can't right now!"

"But you're in danger." The nurse replies.

"Nothing I haven't been through before." Jac says, as she suddenly drops the scalpel.

She goes to pick it up, and feels a pain in her stomach.

"That's it, I'm calling him."

"Put that phone down." Jac says, turning to face the nurse "Now!"

Suddenly Hannah's monitors start going off again, and they start compressions.

Forty minutes later...

Jac walks out of the theatre covered in blood, pretty much head to toe.

The operation was horrendous, not only had she lost Hannah she had probably lost her baby too.

"Kellie." Jac says, walking up behind her.

"Oh my God." Kellie exclaims, when she sees what a mess Jac is in "Is Hannah okay?"

"I'm sorry, but she didn't make it." Jac replies, walking away.

Jac grabs a new pair of clean scrubs, and locks herself in her office.

She puts the new scrubs on, and sits on the sofa.

Meanwhile...

Kian walks into work, and the scrub nurse from earlier stops him.

"Mr. Madani?" She says, walking up to him.

"Yeah?" He says, turning to face her.

"It's Miss Naylor, shes been bleeding."She replies, as Kian darts off to Darwin.

He runs up to the office door and tries to open it "Jac it's me Kian, let me in please." He almost begs.

"Go away." Jac replies.
