Bumilis ang tibok ng puso ko sa nalaman. Halcon never mentioned her, pati ang mga kasamahan namin sa barko ay hindi binabanggit ang kanyang pangalan. He never mentioned that he had a girlfriend before. But then, hindi rin naman ako nagtanong.
I get that they already broke up. But why did he not mentioned a while ago na ex niya pala si Caelen? No wonder palagi siya nitong dinadalhan ng pagkain.
Old habits die hard huh?
Naalala kong muli ang pagpapalitan nila ng matatamis na ngiti kaninang umaga. At hindi ko mapigilang mag-isip ng kung ano-ano.
Bumigat ang paghinga ko. I want to ask more questions about Caelen. Why they broke up, how long they have been together… Pero mas lalo lang bumibigat ang pakiramdam ko. Nawawalan ako ng gana.
“Ate Avyanna, gutom ka na ba?” I was pulled from my thoughts when Beatrice spoke beside me. Her brows are knotted.
The other girls in front of us are also smiling awkwardly. Like they're trying not to do anything that will upset me more or else I'll explode.
And they're right. Pakiramdam ko sasabog ang dibdib ko sa bigat ng nararamdaman ko.
“Huh?” nalilitong tanong ko.
“Ang sama kasi ng tingin mo sa pagkain,” she said, oblivious to the situation, and flashed her sweet smile to me.
“Heto. Naka tikim ka na ba ng ganyan?” Dina pushed the dish with a mushroom shaped thing coated with chocolate and ground dried chillies as sprinkle.
Napangiwi ako sa pagkain. I managed to say thanks but I don't have a plan on consuming that.
“Tikman mo, masarap 'yan,” Silvia encouraged. The others are also starring, inaabangan ang pagtikim ko sa pagkain.
Seeing no choice, I sighed and picked one. I readied myself to taste the most awkward and unpleasant food at pikit matang kumagat doon at dahan-dahang ngumuya.
But to my surprise, it actually tastes good!
It was weird at first but as you go on, the different ingredients blend in that food makes a very distinct and delicious taste.
“Masarap nga.” Nanlalaki ang mga mata ko sa pagka mangha at tumawa. Humalakhak rin sila and offered me more food.
That moment, the awkward atmosphere was gone at biglang gumaan ang pakiramdam ko sa kanila. All because of a food!
We talked a lot and they asked me questions. I was able to answer some but I dodged questions like, where did I meet Halcon, where I came from and what family do I belong to.
If I answer them, aabutin ako ng siyam-siyam sa pagpapaliwanag sa kanila. There's also the possibility na hindi nila ako paniwalaan. I'm just thankful that Beatrice noticed how uncomfortable I am with those questions kaya palagi niyang iniiba ang usapan.
