Chapter 16: The Bet

Natsu's POV

(flashback on the day they made the bet)

We went behind the school building where no one is around. It's because I can't tell her openly with everyone around because of this personality of mine that I will accept again in my life starting today.

"Alright this is the bet." I crossed my arms and take off my eyes glasses like I change my personality all of a sudden "I know I will be the 1st in list this year again and I don't doubt that." I said

"What's with the attitude? Are you alright senpai? I know you can do it, I also don't doubt your skills." Lucy said

"If you can't beat me you are going to forget about me, never bother me again and leave me alone for good. Your work is only simple be 1st in the list among your batch mates and beat me." I said seriously looking at her.

She was surprised by what I've said but I've already decided this. I think over this 100 times already. I'm not going to back out now.

"W-What kind of bet is this? Ne, Natsu t-tell me that you're only playing around. Hahahaha I know you're only messing with my head. Hahaha right?" She laughs sarcastically but I still can see that she is really affected by it. I lean my face towards hers.

"I'm serious." I stare her eyes with these grinning eyes of mine.

"No, no I refuse! What's wrong with you today? This is not like you." She said pushing me away and turns her back on me

"Do you want to know the reason?" I asked leaning on the wall then she slowly face me

"R-reason?" she said having tears on her eyes. My chest gets heavy all of a sudden.

"Yeah the reason I made this bet is because, I'm tired of you." I step towards her and take another step closer to her "I'm not the person I am before." I'm about 12 inch close to her and she takes a step back but I step closer again "I hate how you always call me senpai. You are also the reason why I've became the topic of the gossips today." I step more closely to her and I whisper to her ear. "And I hate you because you enter my life and change everything about me." I said and stand firmly again with my hands on my pocket

Her tears keep on falling from her eyes to her face. "I-is that so? So I'm just a nuisance to you Natsu? Hahahaha I thought that all those days that we being together as friends mean a lot to you, because you seem to be having fun when you're with me. I thought that you are happy when I'm with you. I guess I'm mistaken about that. Okay I will accept this bet and challenge. I will be the first in the batch. But I have a condition." She said while wiping off her tears

"Condition?"

"If I win, get back all those words you've said to me and always stay by my side and never leave me alone." She said and I was surprised by that

"hahahahahaha" I laugh hard while covering my eyes looking above "If you win, I know everyone in this school by their names and their academic level. You can't beat Levy and Carla. That's what I can only say to you."

"Let's just see about that. I will be 1st remember that." She said and walked away.

I lean on the wall and slowly break and sat down the ground. I place my palms on my face and it seems to be raining really hard now. My tears keep on falling by their own. That's not what I meant to say to her. I'm completely an idiot! I even made her cry. I can't forgive myself. I know that she won't forgive me also for those words that I throw to her. I just stay there for a while and cry until my eyes dried letting myself to calm down. I went first to the library to study and Lisanna talked to be but even though I want to study and focus I can't get those words off my head. I leave the library and went to the rooftop and breathe some air. I feel something heavy from my chest.

I didn't notice that first period in the afternoon already begun. I can't believe I skipped class again. I don't want to go to class today. I lay down my head and rest my eyes. I didn't notice that I've already fallen asleep that fast.

Gray's POV

Its dismissal now and Natsu didn't enter the class since it began after lunch. It's rare that Natsu actually skip class. I took his bag and I was about to go out the classroom but Juvia showed up.

"Gray-sama I'm sorry I can't go home with you today, Juvia have club activities." She said

"Is that so? Okay its fine with me, let's just go together tomorrow." I said

"Bye Gray-sama!!!"

"Be careful okay?"

"Hai~" Juvia left and I went to the roof top. I'm sure he is there.

I opened the door and found him lying on the floor is he sleeping?

"Oi Natsu! I'm right that I can find you here. Here's your bag." I drop his bag from his stomach and he gah! Like he got hurt from that.

"Gray."

"I see that you have the guts to skip class huh?" I said standing at the rail and looking at the sunset

"huh? It's sunset already?! I over slept." He said and yawns

"What's wrong with you today huh?

"I talked to Lucy earlier."

"Then"

"We made a bet." He told me everything that they talked about earlier.

"What the hell are you thinking huh?! What if she didn't win the bet? What's going to happen between the two of you?"

"I don't know. What's done is done. I don't want to talk about it anymore. Thank you for bringing my bag, I'm going home." He said and left me at the roof top.

I never understand that guy.
