✧Wei Wuxian- Lullaby✧

A/N- This oneshot is, once again, put to a song I like called Lullaby by Dreamcatcher. The song comforts me, and I think the lyrics fit a fluff oneshot- I'm sure you guys are thankful for there finally being fluff and less angst in these oneshots lmao- but anyway here we go!

YOU AND WEI YING were camping outside together during the night. It was a choice made on the spur of the moment, just so you could have fun and forget your troubles for a night.

Next to you, you noticed Wei Ying struggling to sleep.

"Do you want me to sing you a lullaby?" you asked him.

He smiled and said, "Yes. That would help a lot."

You gave him a smile and began to sing your favorite lullaby.

Do not open your eyes. Look at me, I'll let you stay by my side all night~ (edited the line from 'let you stay by my side all day' to 'let you stay by my side all night' to fit the mood more.

"Your voice is beautiful," Wei Ying murmured. "You're so beautiful."

You began to gently stroke his hair, knowing that that would help him sleep, and continued to sing.

To me, who will disappear the moment you wake up, looking at your eyes is everything~

Wei Ying began to panic at this line. He grabbed at your hanfu and said, "Please don't disappear. I... I don't want to be alone."

"Hush," you whispered. "I won't disappear. I'll stay by you all night, until you wake up."

"I love you," Wei Ying hummed softly.

"I love you too, my Wei Ying," you responded.

In the times that you are absent, I want to leave, but I'm only left in forgotten memories~

You remembered you and Wei Ying playing together as children. Envisioning those happier times as you held a struggling adult Wei Ying in your arms made your heart feel close to breaking. What had gone wrong? Who had hurt your precious Wei Ying this much, to even make him afraid to close his eyes? Whomever it was, you would find them. And you would make them pay.

"It hurts, Y/N," Wei Ying sobbed. "Being alone... it hurts me... please don't leave..."

"I will never leave you," you promised him. "I'll stay by your side forever."

He was holding onto you tightly, but his grip slowly began to get weaker. He was getting sleepier. You were glad of that.

Even though I have waited in this place every day, I'm not so sure if I will tomorrow~

You heard his soft, steady breathing, and felt his grip on you stop. His hands fell to his sides, and he laid there, motionless. Asleep.

Don't make me cry, not even for a moment. Don't leave me alone, please take my hand~

These lyrics sounded like Wei Ying's begging from before. You knew how much he hated being left alone, how much he relied on you. That was why what you were about to do to him hurt so much.

All this time, have my steps towards you forever made me stay in this place?~

You got up from where you were sitting next to Wei Ying and gave him a kiss on the forehead.

"I'm sorry, Wei Ying, my love," you whispered to him. "But I can't take care of you anymore. I never could..."

It would have been nice if you could have brought me with you whenever you left, but my feelings are faster than time~

You stayed by his side for a moment more, then left. You turned around multiple times, but why, you didn't know.

He doesn't matter to me. I can't save him, you kept on telling yourself.

But you were lying.

You began to cry as you saw Lotus Pier in the distance.

I'm sorry, Wei Ying, you thought. But I just can't take care of you. I'm not enough. You need more than just my weak, worthless love.

The lights of Lotus Pier embraced you, and the warmth held you. But it didn't comfort you. You had gone against your nature, and it hurt. So much.

I'll never leave you alone... Even if I try my best to hold on to you, I can't help but send you who open your eyes away~

You fell to the ground, curled up, and shut your eyes, sobbing and imagining Wei Ying opening his eyes in the forest without you. The promise you had made was worthless, broken.

You were worthless and broken.

You heard quick footsteps behind you, and turned to see Wei Ying standing there. He fell down onto his knees next to you and embraced your crying, shaking, breaking body in his arms.

"Please don't cry," he murmured. "I love you."

"Wei Ying!" you cried out. "You came back for me!"

"I always will," he said. "I love you."

Even though I have waited in this place every day, I'm not so sure I will tomorrow~

"I'll always wait for you," Wei Ying murmured tenderly. "I'll always come for you."

"I'll always... love you."
