A/N- Nie Huaisang is too cute pls help lol- i get that he's a villain at the end but he's just so cute like I can't resist him- I want to give him a huge hug, along with Wen Ning, Wei Wuxian, and Sizhui. Also in this story you're Huaisang's older sister. Sorry for the set gender and role. It will just work better with the storyline.

EVER SINCE YOUR younger brother Huaisang had become clan leader, people had been badmouthing him everywhere for his bad leadership skills and how he didn't know anything about taking care of his land and people. As his older sister, you were sick and tired of hearing him badmouthed. You knew something the gossipers didn't, and that was how hard your younger brother was trying. Every day, he studied books on leadership, and he tried hard to please his people, so much it stressed him out and he went to bed crying some nights.

Today, Huaisang had called a meeting of the people, to see what they thought about him. You told him that you believed it was a bad idea to do this because his people didn't like him at all, and he should wait until further in his rule to question whether they liked him or not, but he said that they may give him good constructive criticism on how he could make his rule better. You knew better. The people of the Unclean Realm were cruel- hardy and good fighters, but terribly cruel. They didn't have the patience for constructive criticism. They would just insult their leader if they disliked him, not give him tips on how to improve.

Yet, despite all your knowledge, you stood by your brother's side outside on a hot day, with all the people of Unclean Realm sitting in front of you. As soon as Huaisang moved his fan away from his face, the people began to boo him loudly. His lips pulled down in a frown, and he softly said, "Please, keep it quiet." Due to the quietness of his request, nobody heard him, so you yelled it out.

"Please, shut your mouths!" you snapped.

"Be polite, Y/N. The people love a polite leader," Huaisang told you, waving his fan like he did when he was bored.

"They don't love you at all, and you're being polite," you responded. You gestured towards the crowd, who had became silent as soon as they heard you yelling at them. "See, being rude gets results."

Your brother just nodded at you, the nod that showed you that you were correct. Then he raised his voice and called out, "Hey! I called this meeting today to see how your lives are doing. Do you have any constructive criticism for me, any suggestions of laws you may like passed?"

The crowd was quiet, then one man yelled, "Why are you such a terrible leader?"

He didn't react verbally to that, but you could see the sadness in his eyes.

"I don't know, why am I one?" he asked, responding as if it was a joke.

"It's not a joke," the man responded, "it's a genuine question."

"I... I... you... I-" Huaisang stammered, unsure of how to respond.

"Look at him! He doesn't even know how to respond to such a simple question. Well, let us tell you," the man said.

The crowd all spoke now, hearing the signal they had been waiting for.

"All you do is wave your fan around all day like a young damsel!" a man yelled.

That's because he's keeping himself free of hot air like you, you thought.

"You don't even know how to fight like a man," another one told him.

He's very skilled in other things, he doesn't need to know how to fight.

"You can't even speak correctly, all you do is stammer and say you don't know," a woman with a nasal twang to her voice said.

Oh please, ma'am, your voice sounds like a guqin being attacked by dogs.

"You know nothing of politics," a woman with a deep, masculine voice said.

And you know nothing of acting feminine.

Huaisang hid his face with his fan once again, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"I-I just w-want t-t-to..." he tried, and failed to speak.

He looked to you with a plea for help in his eyes and expression. You gave his hand a squeeze and said, "You all attack my brother without knowing how much he's trying to improve himself for you. Some days, he goes to bed at 3 in the morning crying because of how many books on leadership he's studied, and he practices swordsmanship until his hands are bloody and blistered. If you doubt this, let me show you."

You held out Huaisang's hands to show the crowd. The once flawless, baby-skin-soft hands were covered in bloody scrapes and huge pus-filled blisters. The people in the front of the crowd bent forward to look, and some of them even touched the injuries.

"Poor master," you heard a few people murmuring.

"I... I... deserve it..." Huaisang whispered softly.

"No, my precious didi. You don't deserve any of this pain," you whispered back to him.

"He's studying leadership?" the woman with a masculine voice asked.

"Yes," you said.

"He's learning how to fight like a man?" the second man asked.

"Yes, he is taking lessons," you responded.

"And can he tell us this, show us he can speak properly?" the woman with a twangy voice asked.

Huaisang moved his face out from behind his fan, revealing the tear tracks residing there.

"I am constantly taking steps to become a better leader to you all," he said, without stammering, loudly and clearly.

"Well," the man who had yelled first said, "he can come out from behind that fan!"

"He can speak correctly!" Twangy-Voice Woman said.

"He knows how to appease the people, that's a very good leadership quality," Deep-Voice Woman responded.

"And he speaks bravely and without hesitation, as a man should," Can't-Fight Man said.

"Perhaps we can learn to respect you, master Huaisang," the man who had yelled about how terrible of a leader Huaisang was told him.

"Y-y-you c-can?" Huaisang stammered in shock.

"Of course we can!" the crowd chorused.

Huaisang burst into relieved sobs, and proudly hid his head in your chest.

"They can respect me, jiejie," he whimpered. "T-t-they'll respect me."

"I'm so glad, didi," you responded, stroking his hair gently. "I'm so glad..."
