A/N- Had to use a gif from the animated show and like- tell me why I want to run my fingers through this man's long hair so badly lol. Also this is the same basic premise as Episode 11 of the live action (idk if it's 11 or 10, my brain doesn't function lmao) where he gets thrown in the cell with the dog, just because I love the idea of someone else being in there with him and trying to take care of him.

WEI WUXIAN'S CRIES shattered your heart into tiny pieces. The poor young man was curled up against the wall like a shrimp, his arms wrapped around his legs and his legs pressed up to his face. He was shaking like a leaf in the wind, and he couldn't get his eyes off the ravenous wolf who would attack him if he moved.

You sat by Wuxian's side, blood staining your hanfu. It hurt to move from the amount of bites you had recieved, but you were constantly moving, trying to keep yourself fit and sane. You had been imprisoned in this place for days for refusing to read out the Wen clan's rules out loud. The wolf had hurt you so many times that you had just stopped counting. You had bled out more than was probably healthy, but you didn't let that stop you. You swore that as long as you were imprisoned here, you would keep a positive outlook on life, and try to help anyone else who was imprisoned with you to do so as well. And it was because of this oath that you moved over to Wuxian's side now and laid your hand on his slender shoulder to comfort him.

"Wuxian, it's going to be okay," you said. "You're being freed tomorrow. Wouldn't you rather be freed without so many injuries?"

Wuxian didn't respond, just buried his head in your chest. You stroked his hair, and he whimpered and then burst into loud sobs. The wolf walked over to him and sniffed him, and he howled louder than it ever could.

"N-n-no! D-d-don't! Shije!"

He seemed to think that you were his sister, his shije, Jiang Yanli. Usually being compared to a fine noble lady would honor you, but now it just made you concerned over his mental state.

"Wuxian, I'm not your shije. Your shije is outside this prison. Your shije is safe. I'm just here to help you, I'm not your sibling," you told him.

"I'm sorry! It's all my fault! I'm sorry!" he wailed.

"No, it's not your fault. It's not your fault, Young Master Wei," you murmured, still stroking his hair. You hadn't stopped once, not even when the dog came near you. He needed to be comforted, and you would comfort him.

"Y-young m-ma...ster..."

He lost consciousness for seemingly no reason, his head falling against your shoulder. You panicked and checked his pulse and breathing. When both were steady, you looked to see what the wolf had done. Maybe an action the animal had done had scared him? No, it wasn't that. The wolf was sitting down like a good boy, gnawing on a piece of meat that was...

Oh, God. Was that a human arm?

Nausea overtook you, and you threw up all over the ground. You understood now why Wei Wuxian had passed out. That sight was not a sight you had ever wanted to see in your life.

You held his body close to yours for the rest of the day, and when you fell asleep, you held him against your chest. When you woke up, he wasn't there, and you only hoped that he had been freed from this hellish prison. You felt a rush of happiness for the young man. Prison had been hard on him. You hoped he could recover and forget everything that happened to him.

(a few months later~)

You were finally out of prison! You couldn't believe it! The day had finally come. The Wens had been overthrown, and all their prisoners were freed. You weren't told this, and you didn't know it for sure, but you knew that Wei Wuxian had played a huge role in emancipating you. You wished you could see him, so you could thank him officially.

As you left the prison, you saw the white-robed Gusu Lan clan walking towards it. To your surprise, you noticed the clan leader, Lan Xichen, and his younger brother Lan Wangji leading the quite small group of Lan disciples. Xichen was a wise man, he would definitely know where Wei Wuxian was and where you could go to thank him. You rushed over to his side, and after bowing to him, frantically interrogated him about Wuxian's whereabouts. You noticed that Wangji looked quite angry when you first said Wuxian's name, then looked sad when you asked where he was. Why would the usually emotionless Little Jade of Gusu show so much emotion about someone.

Oh. The realization hit you like a ton of bricks.

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were in love! How beautiful! But then that look of grief on his face had to mean...

"Oh dear. Is Wei Wuxian dead?" you asked Lan Xichen, possibly more bluntly than you should. Wangji cried out and buried his head in his hands, and you felt like a monster all of a sudden.

"No," Xichen said firmly. "He's not dead. I refuse to believe that he's dead. He's just lost at the moment. I'm sorry. Would you like me to tell him something when we find him?"

"Would you?" you asked eagerly.

Xichen smiled amicably at you and said, "I would be more than willing to, if you wish me to."

"Can you tell him that I thank him a thousand times for freeing me from prison, and that I hope he forgot all the events that happened there, and that he's not suffering anymore?"

Xichen nodded and said, "I will tell him this, yes. I wish you good luck in starting over, young one. Life is hard nowadays. Try to keep a positive outlook on life."

You gave the Lan clan leader a bright smile and bowed to him, saying, "I always try! Have good travels, Lan Xichen!"

He bowed to you back and said, "Safe travels, young one."

You watched as the backs of Xichen and Wangji disappeared into the distance.

You could have sworn that Wangji looked back at you...
