Year 1

Class met in the library, outside the computer lab. Mr. Jung hasn't arrived so everyone was lounging around the door until he came with the key.

I'm nervous about inviting Taehyung over for Saturday, but if I can't invite him today there's at least one more chance after today.

For courage, I put on the necklace my mother gave me when I was younger — a thin gold one for good luck. Playing with it helps my anxious heart, but I can't wear it all the time. I would be upset if it breaks.

I pull out a chair at a nearby table and wait with the others. Across from me, I catch Taehyung's friends playing around with each other. Jimin's turning side to side, his hands slapping Jin's arms in the process. Jin snaps and threatens to chase Jimin around.

I giggle to myself and look around for Taehyung. Where could he be?

Just as I turn my head, I feel a weight on my chair.

Shocked, I tilt my head up catching an upside down view of Taehyung looking over. He had stepped onto the lower piece of the back of my chair.

With a wide smile, he greets me. "Hi, Seolli."

My eyes widen, shocked by how he much he glowed.

Jimin yanks Taehyung, mumbling something to him with a playful smile.

"Sorry Class..."

Mr. Jung walks into the lounge explaining how we would pick our topics and then were free to use the lab or explore the library for more books.

Taehyung has a seat at my table as we wait for Mr. Jung to come around.

Now would be a good time...

I sit up and turn his way. Taehyung raises his eyebrows and looks back at me, waiting.

Shy to speak, I break the eye contact.

It's like he knows I'm going to ask something.

Taehyung tilts his head to reconnect our eyes and chuckles softly.

"Alright, what topic do you kids want." Mr. Jung walks over and gives us each a copy of the list.

I would be okay with anything, but I should still pick so Taehyung doesn't feel the pressure.

My eyes roam through all the topics of discord.

"Pick something that really fuels your fire. Something-"

Taehyung whips the paper down and points to a line so fast that I jump in my seat.

"This one."

He's points to 'raise the age restriction to 21 for motorcycle license.'

"I'll write in agreement," he mutters through his teeth.

"Very well. Seolli, are you okay with opposing?"

"Yes," I nod my head and Mr. Jung walks away after noting it down.

I face Taehyung again but he's busy scratching the wood of the table, lost in thought.

Maybe I'll push the invitation for next time...

Right now, I'm concerned with how Taehyung is.

"Taehyung?"

Something flickers over his eyes and they pick up to look at me. He smiles like usual, "Sorry."

I shake my head. He didn't need to apologize.

"How about we..." His voice trails off and before he can finish his sentence, Jimin's clapping a hand over his shoulder.

"Hmmm? Are you planning to go somewhere alone? Just the two of you?" Jimin smirks, clearly joking. "So you can...?"

Taehyung flickers his eyes at him and I look down at my hands because my face probably turned red.

They probably joke like this all the time, but here I am thinking twice about it.

"Careful, Seolli~ this one is not as innocent as you think."

Taehyung stands up quickly and takes Jimin's head under his arm. "Jimin!"

Jimin laughs harder before breaking free. Spinning over my way, he whispers into my ear.

"Sorry. I just like to make his face go red."

Lifting my head up, I look at Taehyung again. He's thrown his head back but as he brings it back forward, I realize it's true.

He's also red.
