March 29 Monday Year 1
K.THNG:
Thank you for having me.
Seolilili: We're thankful too
K.THNG:
:)
You know...
I was surprised everyone knew I was only a friend...
I was preparing myself for more questions 😝
As I wait for the line to the bathroom to dwindle down, I sit on the settee in the hall. It's always busy after lecture, but I don't mind since I don't have another lecture after the last.
To pass time, I reread Taehyung's last message.
What did he mean by more questions?
Did he mean about himself?
My aunts asked a few after his visit. How old he was, what he studied, and even what desserts he would like for when they visit again. I felt bad that I didn't know all the answers, but I made it my goal to find out this week.
I blush as I type back a response.
Seollilili: My mom must've told my aunts
They said kind things about you after you left
I'm sure they'll have more questions next time
I tug on my bangs.
Next time.
Will there really be a next time?
Taehyung said he wanted to go to the cherry blossom festival together, and I feel like we really will get to go together.
It would be lots of fun...
When I pull myself out of my thoughts, I see the line has completely disappeared. Locking my phone, I get up to go inside.
My eyes widen when I see Jiyoo and her friends hanging by the mirror. Leaning close, she applies her lipgloss and smiles.
She's sooo pretty.
No wonder she's popular.
I hide behind my hair as I walk past and enter into the stall.
As I hang up my backpack, I overhear their conversation.
I don't mean to eavesdrop, but it's hard when we're the only ones in the room.
"Did Taehyung go with you Saturday?" Her friend asks.
"He canceled on us." Jiyoo says quietly.
"For real?"
"Said he got called into work Sunday."
"Mmmm. Too bad. Do you know where he works?"
"I think front desk at a doctor's office? Not sure..."
They fall silent.
I stand still by the stall door, my heart beating faster.
Did Taehyung make an excuse for his friends?
Jiyoo sighs, breaking the silence. "You know. I've been friends with Taehyung for almost 2 years and I...I don't feel close...at all."
Oh no... Jiyoo sounds upset.
"We haven't even been to his house or met his family, and barely hang out. Like he has an excuse every time."
I feel a tiny ache in my heart because I understand how it feels to want to be closer to someone.
"How can we call him our best friend?" She mumbles.
Her other friend tries to console her. "Just keep trying."
My phone buzzes, startling me and I accidentally bump my head into the door.
Covering my mouth, I stay in place. Did they hear me?
I should probably hurry before they become concerned.
Feeling the heat on my face, I tuck my hair behind my ear.
Checking my phone, I see that Taehyung messaged me back.
K.THNG:
That makes me happy.
I'll bring them some more candles.
I smile and slip my phone in my backpack to quickly use the bathroom.
When I walk out of the stall, I find that Jiyoo is the only one left of her friends, leaning on the counter as she scrolls through her phone.
I try to be as invisible as possible as I step up to the sink to wash my hands.
Jiyoo lifts her head up and I feel her stare from the side of my face.
Nervously picking up my head, I look at her.
She stares at me for a second, her eyebrows knitted together. She opens her mouth as if to say something, but she shuts it before standing straight and walking out of the room.
I tilt my head.
Don't worry, Jiyoo.
I'm sure Taehyung wants to be close to you guys too.
