The PSAT test.

The single most nerve-racking practice test any teenager can take.

Despite studying for it for days Ayla still felt like she wasn't prepared. Her palms were sweaty and her heart was beating so fast she thought she might pass out.

Despite being smart, Ayla always had problems with taking tests she would always end up freaking out towards the end.

"Where's Lydia?" Ayla asked her friends as they stood in line, noticing the missing girl.

"She took it her freshman year," Stiles explained.

Malia's head shot up, "Does that mean I could have taken it some other time?"

Ayla put her hand on the girl's shoulder, trying to help her calm down. "Malia, you studied harder for this than any of us."

"Doesn't mean I'm gonna do good." Ayla could feel the amount of anxiety the girl had, it was definitely one aspect of her powers that she hated. Whatever strong emotion someone close to her felt, she would feel the same thing.

"Okay, okay," Scott began, "You're doing this because while we're trying not to die, we still need to live. If I survive high school, I'd like to go to college. A good college."

"It's only three hours. We can survive three hours," Kira said, but she was clearly nervous as well.

Hugging her arms to her chest, Ayla nodded. "Yeah, I mean, the PSATs don't really count towards college, it's the SATs that do and we have a whole 'nother year to take those."

Despite everyone's attempts at calming the others down, they were all still nervous. On their way into the class, each student had to get a print of their thumb done before receiving their test booklet and handing in their phone.

Ayla took a seat between Stiles and Kira and nervously played with her hands. "Don't be nervous." Stiles turned around to face her. "You'll do great, you're like...incredibly smart."

"Yeah but that doesn't stop me from feeling every single anxious feeling that everyone in this room has."

"You can do that?" Stiles asked with wide eyes.

Ayla glared at him. "Do you not listen when I talk to you?"

"No I do it's just-" Stiles tried to back track but he was cut off by the teacher who was proctoring the exam.

"This test is two hours and 10 minutes long. There will be two 25-minute critical reading sections, two 25-minute math sections, and an essay writing portion that will last 30 minutes. There are supposed to be two teachers monitoring this exam."

"I know," Lydia's mother said from behind him. "It's Coach. He's not exactly punctual. Um, let me just try him again."

When she failed on finding Coach, the test began.

Ayla stared down at the paper and froze, she knew the answer to the question she just couldn't get herself to move her hand. It took her a couple of minutes but she was finally able to get through the anxiety and write.

Once she got over the initial wave of stress and nerves, she took off, answering every question without a second thought.

Jordan knew she could do it. He had been there to help her study when they were both home and even made her a nice breakfast that morning so she wouldn't be distracted by hunger.

Ayla was on a roll answering questions when a girl sitting a few feet beside her, collapsed out of her seat.

"Sydney!" Mrs. Martin yelled, rushing over to the girl and helping her up. "Are you alright?"

"I'm okay. I just got kind of dizzy," the girl said, trying to keep her balance.

Probably nerves, Ayla thought to herself.
