CALLISTO LIFTED HER head up from a cold, hard surface, her eyes snapping open sharply. the room around her was dark minus a faint light that seemed to peak through a thin slit by a door. she stood up, striding through the door, thinking something may have happened to the t.a.r.d.i.s.
however, she was definitely not in the familiar spaceship. people stood around what seemed to be a large room preparing to record a game show. callisto looked around at the production team, many of them checking the cameras were working, some fiddling with a large robot which had its head bent over.
"hello!" a cheerful voice spoke up and callisto turned defensively to see a black woman come up beside her, grinning. "i'm lola!"
"what am i doing here?" callisto demanded, gripping lola's shoulders tightly causing her to wince. "did you kidnap me? what did you do with my friends?"
"you're here to play the chase, i didn't kidnap you, you were chosen, i have no idea who your friends are!" lola answered hurriedly. "you'll probably remember how you got here in a few moments. amnesia, you see."
"why would i have amnesia?" callisto questioned, eyebrows furrowed. "sorry, did you say i was chosen? chosen by who? what's the chase?"
"the transmitter, it messes with your head." lola replied. "you don't know what the chase is?"
"well, i wouldn't ask if i knew what it was." callisto glared.
"it's- it's a game show. you have to answer questions which earns you credits and then you go against the chaser and they give you different offers for different amounts of credits. you have to beat them to get back on the team, and if not then you're eliminated. after everyone's had a go against the chaser, the whole team gets two minutes to answer as many as possible. then the chaser has two minutes afterwards to do the same and if they don't answer all the questions in two minutes, the team wins and we split the credits. if the chaser wins, we're eliminated." lola rushed out.
"right, okay." callisto muttered, no less confused.
"could you let go of me now? you're really hurting my shoulders." callisto did, her arms falling to her sides. "remember anything?"
"n- yes! we'd left raxacoricofallapatorious, then we went to kyoto. we only just escaped, we were together like normal and then a random light. then... well, this, i suppose." callisto mumbled.
"yeah, that's the transmat beam, that's how they pick the contestants." lola nodded.
"no, but none of us could've been picked." callisto scoffed. the transmat beam shouldn't've gotten through the t.a.r.d.i.s. someone clearly wants the doctor.
"you said you didn't know what the chase was." lola started, bringing callisto from her thoughts. "how? it's one of the most popular game shows."
