MICKEY WAS INITIALLY surprised that callisto had followed him, seeing as though they didn't really know one another, but she just told him what she'd told the doctor: how there was two of them so why would she let him go alone in a parallel world. she didn't mention that she felt bad for mickey because of how rose and the doctor hardly tried to include him in a lot of conversations. she figured he wouldn't find her pity for him helpful.
the pair walked through the parallel world, everything quiet except for the sound of cars which were slowly driving ahead of them. in front of them was a bridge, a train track above it. however, there were stop signs before the bridge and a barrier as well as a soldier dressed in camouflage.
"are we alright to get past?" mickey asked.
"yeah, no bother. curfew doesn't start 'til 10." the soldier replied, a second soldier walking up behind him.
"there's a curfew?" mickey inquired.
"course there is." the soldier said as if mickey was mental. "where you been living, mate? up there with the tops?" he was referring to the people living in the zeppelins over the city.
"i wish." mickey chuckled and they walked past the two soldiers. "see ya."
after the second soldier had lifted the barrier for them to pass, callisto turned to mickey, "has there ever been a curfew on your earth?"
"no. why would they need one in this reality?" mickey asked.
"i don't know. don't think i want to know, either." callisto muttered. "could also be nothing, just an added, random rule, to be fair. anyway, where're we going?"
"waterton street." mickey answered.
"what's in waterton street? or who's in waterton street?" callisto inquired.
"my gran, hopefully." mickey smiled. "my mum couldn't cope after a while and my dad hung 'round a bit but wandered off. my gran raised me but then she passed away. tripped on a torn piece of carpet and fell down the stairs. just wanna see if she's alive here."
"and if she is, you're gonna stay, aren't you?" callisto asked.
mickey gave a small nod, "yeah, if she needs someone. like i said, i'm a spare part in the t.a.r.d.i.s."
"i understand where you're coming from. so, if you'll end up being happier here, i say stay. unless that somehow effects time and reality, but i doubt it would." callisto mused as they turned down onto waterton street.
mickey's steps slowed down a little as he spotted what callisto assumed was his gran's front door. she hung back on the path as mickey went to the door, clacking the knocked on the door a few times.
seconds later, his gran was calling, "who's that there?" she unlocked the door, a walking stick to help her get around in her hand, "who is it? i know you're there. shame on you, tricking an old lady. i've got nothing worth stealing! and don't think i'm gonna disappear, you're not gonna take me!"
