THE DOCTOR LOOKED between the ship and the lifebuoy once more before springing up to the console. he clocked a few buttons and then went to the other side to turn a handle around. he continued to turn it until the ship was no longer sticking halfway inside the t.a.r.d.i.s and all of the panels were back in place. at his nod, callisto pulled down a lever.
their ship materialised on the titanic and they stuck their heads out of the door to see where they had landed. they looked to be inside of a storage cupboard, a dozen crystal wine glasses perched on a shelf beside them. the doctor took callisto's hand and pulled her out the door to see what was happening.
inside the main area of the ship, there was a calm party in progress. tables were lay out smartly across the room, decorated with pretty flowers and perfectly polished cutlery. people laughed and chatted between themselves around the room, all dressed in black and white suits or posh dresses. there was an string version of jingle bells playing quietly across the room, not too loud as to disrupt, but loud enough for everyone to admire it.
the couple probably looked a bit of a mess compared to others, dust covering their clothes as they wandered casually through the room. there were robots at the side of the room, made to look like golden angels with their white, gloved hands positioned as if in prayer. they stood in front of one and it turned to face them, but said nothing at all.
callisto had forgotten to shift her skin tone to appear human, which everyone she'd seen so far did, but a small, red man covered in spikes walked past her and the doctor, laughing with two women and she relaxed. callisto was busy admiring the christmas decorations, even though she still didn't completely understand why humans had it, let alone aliens who didn't believe in christianity.
the doctor let go of her hand and walked to a round window, understanding dawning on his face, "right..."
"what?" callisto asked and he reached to pull her to the window. "ah."
"attention all passengers," a friendly voice rang through the room on a speaker, "the titanic is now in orbit above sol 3, also known as earth, population - human. ladies and gentlemen, welcome to christmas."
"paris later?" the doctor offered, grinning at callisto's easy nod.
the couple made their way back into the t.a.r.d.i.s to get changed so they wouldn't stick out in the middle of the fancy party, a fancy party they weren't really supposed to be in the middle of. the doctor changed into a black suit with a white shirt and a black bow tie, which he waited outside for callisto to do.
callisto walked out behind the doctor, now dressed in a black dress. it was decorated with small, embroidered roses, the silky fabric tight around her torso, a bit looser and flowing around her legs. one of the favourite things she'd ever worn though were her boots, a navy blue heeled platform boot decorated with shooting stars and dangling chains with moons on the heel. did they go with her dress particularly well? no, not completely. would she take them off and waste an opportunity to wear them? absolutely not, what a ridiculous idea.
