THE DOCTOR, NOW with a new face, body and voice, pulled a lever on the t.a.r.d.i.s console, twisting a green ball that was implanted into the panel. opposite him, callisto pulled another lever and the middle of the ship began pumping up and down, whirring. outside, rose was saying goodbye to her mum and mickey.
callisto flicked a few switches, which the doctor had told her to do, glancing at him as he came up behind her and slammed his fist on a button, grinning at her. she returned the smile, smaller than his but equally as happy. the t.a.r.d.i.s door slammed shut as rose walked in, a large bag of clothes on her back, and callisto cleared her throat, moving from under the doctor's stare and body.
the doctor smiled at rose before pulling a lever. rose pulled her hat off, placing her bag down as she asked, "so, where're we going?"
"further than we've ever gone before." he replied, turning a few more knobs and switches.
moments later, the t.a.r.d.i.s wheezed as it materialised at its new destination. rose pulled open the door, callisto following her and then the doctor, shutting the door behind him. rose stared around in amazement, callisto taking in the view also, the doctor coming up to stand beside her.
"it's the year five-billion-and-twenty-three, we're in the galaxy m87, and this... this is new earth." the doctor explained, smiling.
a city stood across a large body of water, cars flying overhead. a long bridge ran over the water, leading towards the city of tall building. hundreds. possibly thousands, of the clothing cars heading in different directions in the city.
"that's just... that's just..." rose trailed off before laughing into her hand in astonishment.
"not bad. not bad at all." the doctor grinned.
"that's amazing. i'll never get used to this. never" rose mumbled, before she started jumping, "different ground beneath my feet. different sky. what's that smell."
"i think it's the grass." callisto hummed, pulling some blades from the ground, holding them up to smell.
"apple grass." the doctor said after he'd smelt it.
"apple grass." rose repeated.
"yeah, yeah!" the doctor nodded happily.
"beautiful!" rose beamed. "oh, i love this. can i just say, travelling with you two, i love it."
"me too." the doctor said, looking between them both.
"i suppose you pair are alright." callisto joked.
the doctor rolled his eyes at her, his grin unwavering as he took her hand, pulling her along, callisto grabbing rose's too, "c'mon!"
they ran down the grass, finding a nice spot where the doctor lay out his trench coat. the three lay down on it, the doctor having the most room on the trench coat in the middle while rose and callisto were kind of half-off the coat, not that they minded; they'd smell like apples, after all.
