I thought a little break from the sadness might be nice.

"Remi said I have a good shot."

Dazed, Spencer nodded along to her words.

"Aren't you going to get undressed?"

A chuckle fell from his lips as his hands fell down to his waistband. He was having a fine time watching her shimmy out of her nude thong in their small apartment bathroom. And now as she stood naked in front of him, arms crossed, assessing him keenly, this view wasn't bad either.

"I'm getting started, but you better join me," she finally huffed.

"Yes, ma'am."

She bit her bottom lip sheepishly as she strode past him.

Not taking his eyes off of her, he shoved his thumbs into his sweats. A goofy smile brightened up her face as she pretended to focus on finding the right water temperature, but he could see her eyes darting precariously in his direction.

Guys in the locker room asked him time and time again how he and his girl remained solid after so many years. His teammates constantly bitched and moaned about all they did for their girls, the designer bags and fancy dinners they spent their NIL money on. Yet, their girls never seemed happy enough. They always wanted more. How come his didn't seem the same?

First, he told them—if all their girls cared about was money and bags, they might want to reconsider their choice in women. But besides that, he mentioned—the magic wasn't in the grand gestures. It was in the everyday moments. Spending time together. Making each other feel special. Keeping it playful.

It didn't have to be complicated.

Sure, there were challenges. Like now, he and Liv were in the midst of one of their busiest eras. Most of their mornings were spent scarfing down breakfast and rushing to class. Throughout the day, they rarely saw each other. He was on his usual in-season grind, and Olivia was killing it on the school's newspaper. She was the surefire nominee to become the next editor-in-chief. Securing that role was her top priority right now. And because of their commitments, most nights, they hardly had time to sit down together for dinner and unwind.

Their only remaining time slot for each other was their nightly shower before bed.

It was their time to catch up. To be fully present with each other. They promised each other that if they didn't have anything else, they'd have this time together. And because both of them were constantly overworking and overstimulated, they didn't have to have a discussion to know that they'd keep this sacred bit of time light.

In the shower, they went through their usual routine. Lathering, scrubbing, rinsing. Catching up on their lives and divulging the tiny details from their days. Those details that nobody would care about, but they loved sharing with each other.

Their conversation flowed easily until the inevitable time came when Olivia's hand slid between her thighs, grasping at the air between them.

A chuckle fell from his lips as he watched her miss repeatedly.

Her head flew over her shoulder. "Come here."

As much as both of them wished it could, sex didn't fit itself in every night. Some nights one was too tired, other nights, they both were. But on the nights when they could both sense that the energy was there, he'd end up inside her. Without fail. It was another key factor that kept them strong.

So obligingly, he stepped forward.

"Thank you," she mumbled, wrapping her fingers around his warmth. She positioned him at her entrance, but before letting him in, she slid his tip through her folds, dipping him inside just a smidge.
