Would Anyone Like To Explain What I'm Witnessing?

I have absolutely no care for canon or timelines. You have been warned. Also, this is weird, but if you've got this far you know this.

Yeah, go on a few months-long trip, they had said. Nothing can happen that we won't be able to handle, they had said. There isn't going to be an apocalypse stop worrying so much, they had said. Peter and Harley really should not have picked 'what's the worse that could happen' as their strategy to convince the Avengers to go touring around Europe. The team was jetting around, proving they existed and trying to teach people that they were all capable of being someone's hero, while Peter and Harley were now running around the country with the academic decathlon team, hoping they didn't die. Or get infected with the disease racing through America. They didn't even have time to figure out what started it, as they ran from town to town, hoping to find someplace safe to stay for a day or two. One day, everything was perfectly normal, then the next they were all trying to avoid crazy half-human beings. Some of the infected had a snake tail instead of legs, while others had an octopus' tentacles, but both types would attack anyone that wasn't infected that they came across. Which ended up meaning that the disease was transmitted and the problem grew some more. Making it worse was the fact all communication was down, and the panic meant that water, food, and sewage would not be maintained for long. The country was on lockdown, but that was all that could be done to limit the spread.

Mr Harrington was feeling quite proud of himself so far. He wasn't sure how he ended up being dragged across the country with the Acadec team, nor was he sure where any of the kids' guardians were, but he'd kept the group together and alive for the past two weeks. He had a sinking suspicion that Peter Parker was going to ruin that streak, with this being too much like a field trip for his luck not to strike. Needless to say, that was exactly what happened. Harley was immediately preparing himself when Peter pulled him out of his tent in the middle of the night, in full spider suit as well, "Where have you been all afternoon?"
"Oh Harls, baby" the sob that followed was abruptly cut off, "Why do I always have to be the hero?"
"Shh, it's okay, just tell me what's going on," Harley was seriously worrying now, as his boyfriend kept a distance between them.
"It was Morgs and she was scared. She was so so scared. They were all around her - you need to keep moving - so I had to run in and grab her, but there's a tear in the suit," at this point he turned the torch on. Tears burned at Harley's frightened gasp as it illuminated the inky mark on his skin, despite obvious attempts to clean it. His tears began to fall, and he wasn't sure if it was just from pain, "I need you to look after the others, console Mr Harrington. Find Pepper on your way as well, tell her... Tell her Morgan's with me, please? I love you."
Harley threw himself at his boyfriend, strong arms catching him and making sure he didn't touch the mark that was causing all of this pain, "I love you too. Be safe."
"I'll try. You do the same," he tensed, hearing something Harley couldn't, "You've got to keep moving." With that, he breathed in his boyfriend's scent one last time and fled.

Harley hurried back to the makeshift camp, wanting to scream at the unfairness of it all but needing to hold himself together to lead the others. He went to MJ, Ned, and Betty's tent first, and as soon as they were in the clearing and they could see the tears streaking down his face, they understood, "We need to keep moving."
Mr Harrington only realised that Peter wasn't with them after they had been trekking for another half hour. Harley's soft, "He was in pain," told him all that he needed to know. He had lost another student.

When they found Pepper a few days later, Harley had collected himself. While he broke down, MJ had to take the lead, knowing how cold she seemed but knowing she had to act that way for the good of the group. Harley had hugged the person that was effectively his boyfriend's mother and was proud of how steady his voice was as he told her that Peter was with Morgan.
He'd explained where they were going, and Pepper had carefully asked, "Honey, you know the chance of them having made it is quite low, particularly out in the country?"
"I still have to try. I can't just give up on them."
Pepper sighed, "I know, just be prepared."
Flash broke into the conversation at this point, refusing to believe that if Harley couldn't find his mom and sister then this trip would have been a complete waste of time, with him losing one of his classmates for no reason, "We've also been assessing the state of the country!"
"How is it?" Pepper humored him, aware that in times like these, something as small as high school jealousy stopped existing.
"It's really bad Pep," Harley's response brought the mood down even further, and the group carried on in silence.
