♤♤♤♤♤"I want you to be there tomorrow. It's really important to your father and therefore its really important to the rest of this family okay?" My mother. The kindest soul i know. She would kill for any of us, and i would for her.
"Dad will be alright without me there, I'm sure he would much prefer to see anyone else's face but mine." I kissed my teeth watching my mother fix up her Beige long sleeve dress. That went all the way down to her knees.
"Stop saying that ace. Your father loves you so much and you know this. He just has a weird way of showing it." She assures me, puckering up her lips in the mirror of the hallway.
I leaned against the doorway watching her get herself ready for a book interview. Ever since she's released her book amazing Grace she has been getting recognised in every corner of the world.
Which brings positive attention to her but negative attention to me.
"Whatever dad has for me surely cannot be described as love. I think toleration would be the right word in this case." She scoffs shaking her head.
"Well Whatever you choose to call it, this dinner means a lot to your father, its the 8 year anniversary of him being the pastor of the temple of Grace church things like this don't come around often so i need you to be the same supportive boy i know you can be and don't do anything to annoy him... please?" She pleads with me with hopeful eyes, to think she's ready for me to disappoint her tells me enough.
"I'll try." She perks up reaching her hand up to squeeze my cheek before grabbing her bag
"Oh and be nice to that eden girl. She's a good young lady, you hear me?" Princess. Of course, only she would have people taking up for her who have barely spoken to her. It's hard enough i have to tolerate her presence at the church, then university, must i hear about her at my own home too?
"You know, you're asking a lot of me right now Ma." I stand up straight grabbing my keys as she throws them my way.
"Im not asking anything out of your character. I know you're the smartest most thoughtful boy this generations got, you're just misunderstood ace. And one day you will prove em all wrong." Her words are medicinal to the wounds caused by other peoples insults.
"I just need you to be on your best behaviour for the family... okay?" She asks me putting on her long leather brown jacket.
"I heard you the first time, ma. I got you." I nod at her
"Alright, little boy let's get going we don't have much time to waste." She scurries to the front door.
"Oh so im driving you now?"
"Boy, why else do you think we got you that car? You're my personal chauffeur for the day." I chuckle at her as she prances out to the car, cheery as always.

The ring of the bell attached to the wooden door creaks as I walk into the bar, head straight down to the floor. My shoulders sinking beneath myself already fallen with misery.
