As I kept walking, I heard quiet meowing in the distance. It sounds like calls of distress. My ears perked as I noticed the noise. My eyes scanned the area and followed its cries.

As I trudged along, my gaze fell upon a familiar sight - a small white fluffy cat huddled beneath a parked car. Its fur was soaked, and it let out distressed meows, seeking shelter from the relentless downpour. My heart went out to the poor creature, and without a second thought, I knelt beside the car, extending my hand in an attempt to coax it out.

The cat, frightened and shivering, hesitated for a moment before cautiously approaching my outstretched hand. With gentle strokes, I reassured the trembling feline, trying to earn its trust. Sensing its vulnerability and desperation, I made a decision - I couldn't leave it out here alone in the rain.

Slowly, I managed to coax the cat closer, and with a soft meow, it nestled into the cozy refuge of my jacket. Zipping it up to shield it from the elements, I cradled the precious bundle against my chest, feeling the rise and fall of its shallow breaths.

I carefully took the apartment keys out of my pocket, careful not to wake up the peacefully sleeping cat.
I unlocked the door, rubbing the bottom of my shoes against the outside mat before taking my shoes off. I entered the apartment in my socks, not wanting the floors to become full of mud.

I placed my shoes on the shoe rack and accidentally dropped my shoes.
I bit my bottom lip and shut my eyes, hoping the cat didn't wake. I slowly looked down to see its eyes wide open.
I frowned, guilty I had scared the cat awake.

I carefully set the cat down on a soft blanket, watching as it cautiously explored its new surroundings. Its wide eyes betrayed a mixture of fear and curiosity, and I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility toward this vulnerable creature.

Rushing to the kitchen, I began to think about what I should feed it. I didn't have cat food on me so I strolled to the fridge, scanning all kinds of sauces, fruits, vegetables, and cold leftovers.

My eyes brightened when my eyes caught some frozen fish.
I smiled before grabbing it and closing the fridge afterward.

I walked over to the sink to grab a clean knife. I pressed the knife into the hard plastic, struggling to cut it open. To my surprise, the plastic ripped apart due to the knife. I lost balance and felt a sharp feeling inject my finger.

I hissed, dropping the knife into the sink. My hands shook, full of adrenaline. I sighed, looking at the blood dripping from my pointer finger.
I felt a fur run against my legs. I looked down to see the cat huddling against my legs while purring. I smiled, feeling a bit better.

I ran some water against the bloody wound, watching it turn clean.
I grabbed a bandaid from the drawer and peeled the plastic covers before wrapping it against my finger.
After I was done I got back to what I was doing.

I prepared a small bowl of food, hoping that a warm meal would soothe its weary soul. The cat, still cautious, approached the bowl hesitantly, sniffing the food before taking tentative bites. I watched with a mixture of relief and joy as it devoured the nourishment, its tail flicking back and forth in contentment.

As the hours passed, I sat on the floor beside the cat, offering comfort and companionship. Its initial wariness slowly dissipated, replaced by a gentle trust that warmed my heart. It seemed as though we had found solace in each other's company, two souls seeking refuge from the storms of life.

The cat looked up at me, its eyes looked so genuine and thankful; it was as if the cat was telling me thank you. A soft smile formed against my lips before I scratched the top of its head.

I tidied up the kitchen before turning off the lights and making my way to my living room. A heavy sigh escaped my lips before sinking into my white couches. I rested my head against the couch, finally feeling some sort of relaxation.

I grabbed the blanket that sat next to me and wrapped it around my cold body. I began to rethink the decisions I've made today, yesterday, and the day before. Regret goes on daily in my mind, regretting every breath I took and every step I've made.

After a few minutes of just staring at the ceiling before a small meow intruded the comfortable silence.

My eyes averted to the sound only to see the cat walking towards the couch.
It attempted to jump onto the couch but failed to do so as it had only fallen back down to the floor.
A small stifled laugh escaped my lips.
It was almost as if the cat was embarrassed since it began to whine.

I grinned before picking it up and put it on my lap. "You're so cute." I praised it, giving it some pets. The cat stood there, hesitant to move.

"I should check you for any wounds, I wouldn't want you to stay here with a wound untreated." I softly spoke, lifting the cat in the air before observing it.
"Hm, you're a boy," I stated. I heard the cat whine again, trying to get out of my hands.

I set him back down on the couch and he sat on the very end of the couch.
"You're shy huh? I should name you." I thought. I silenced myself so I could properly think. My face brightened as I thought of something.

"Yang."

At that moment, I made a silent promise to provide a safe haven for this little creature. I would ensure it never had to face the harshness of the world alone again. For as much as I had saved the cat from the rain, it had also saved me from the emptiness that lingered within.

Together, we would find comfort and love, creating a bond that would weather any storm. And as I watched the cat curl up in a corner, content and at peace, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude. In rescuing this stray, I discovered a warmth and purpose that I never knew I was missing.
