As the lunch bell rang, signaling the much-awaited break, I gathered my belongings and made my way to the cafeteria. Hanni, my best friend, was already waiting for me at our usual spot, a corner table near the window. I smiled as I approached her, excited to share the events of the morning.

"Hey, Ji-yoon!" Hanni exclaimed, her eyes lighting up as she saw me. "Ready for a delicious lunch?"

I chuckled, taking a seat across from her. "Absolutely, Hanni. I could use some fuel to get me through the rest of the day."

Just as we began digging into our meals, I caught a glimpse of Jungwon making his way toward our table. My heart skipped a beat, as Jungwon rarely sat with us during lunch. He usually preferred to be with his soccer team.

I looked up at him as he sat beside me, a playful smile on his face. He turned to me, taking a sip of his soda. "Mind if I sit here, Yoonie?" he questioned, the look in his eyes showing that even if I said no, he would still stay.

I sighed, not responding, and he took that as a yes. My mind swirled with questions as to why he chose to sit with us today, but before I could voice them, Hanni's voice filled the air.

"Yoonie?" Hanni questioned, looking at me with a confused expression before it faded into a teasing smile. I immediately knew what she meant by the look on her face as she gave Jungwon and me a knowing glance.

I cleared my throat, trying to find the right words. "I don't know, Hanni. It's just some stupid nickname he made-" I began, but before I could finish, Jungwon interjected.

"She calls me Wonnie too," Jungwon chimed in, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He knew exactly what he was doing, almost as if he wanted Hanni to get the wrong idea. I looked over at him, giving him a desperate look, silently pleading for him to stop.

Hanni just smiled, not speaking as she continued to eat her food, which only made me question what she was thinking. Was she buying into the idea that there was something more between Jungwon and me? The thought made me feel a mixture of anxiety and curiosity.

As we finished our lunch, the conversation flowed easily between the three of us. Despite my initial apprehension, it felt surprisingly comfortable having Jungwon there. Maybe this was his way of trying to bridge the gap between our friendship groups.

As we gathered our trays and prepared to head back to class, I couldn't help but wonder what the rest of the day had in store for us. With Jungwon sitting with us at lunch, it felt like the dynamics of our friendship were shifting, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Little did I know, this unexpected turn of events would lead to new discoveries, deeper connections, and a bond that would withstand the tests of time.

After finishing our lunch, Hanni stood up and stretched, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled among us. "Well, I hate to split ways, but I have a separate class to attend. You two enjoy the rest of your day," she said with a wink, playfully teasing us once again.

I chuckled, knowing exactly what she was hinting at. "Sure thing, Hanni. We'll catch up later," I replied, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness as she walked away, leaving Jungwon and me alone.

As we gathered our belongings and prepared to head to our next class, Jungwon fell into step beside me. We walked side by side, our shoulders occasionally brushing against each other, creating a subtle, electric connection.

As we entered the classroom, I made my way to my assigned seat, which happened to be next to the windows and close to the corner of the room. Jungwon followed me and took the seat behind mine, his usual spot.

As the teacher began the lesson, I focused my attention on the front, trying to concentrate on the material being taught. However, I couldn't help but feel the weight of Jungwon's presence behind me. Every now and then, I would catch him stealing glances in my direction, a playful smile dancing on his lips.

Unable to resist, I turned around during a brief break in the lecture. "What's with the constant staring, Wonnie?" I whispered.

Jungwon leaned back in his chair, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Can't help it, Yoonie. You're just too fascinating to look away from," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

I couldn't help but blush at his words, feeling a warmth spread throughout my cheeks. Even though I knew it was just one of his daily teasing remarks, hearing him say those words did something to me. I clicked my tongue in annoyance, attempting to hide my flustered expression, and turned back around before the teacher caught us in our little exchange.

For the rest of the class, we maintained a playful back-and-forth, exchanging notes and stealing glances whenever we could. Despite the distractions, I managed to absorb most of the lesson.
