---------------------------------------------------

It's been the same for the past two years, Donghyuck wakes up and gets ready for school. As usual, his night were short, maybe he should work less. But he's like his mother, he has this perfectionist side where he likes to finish everything, and finish it well.

He came down the stairs of his house; his parents sacrificed everything to come and live here. Why? Because they come from North Korea. They miraculously managed to escape, so they decided to go as far away as possible from the country that made their lives a living hell.

Every day was stressful; every day they were afraid of doing something wrong and die. Donghyuck have always done everything perfectly because he had no choice. His alarm is always set at 6 in the morning.

Every time he wakes up, he swears he can hear that damn alarm ringing through the city like they used to hear every morning. Sometimes Donghyuck is afraid that they will be found and taken back to that country by force. He knows very well that once he arrives, he would be locked up or executed.

His friends never question him about his life before Canada, knowing that everything he experienced or seen must be shocking and traumatic. Yet, Donghyuck tries to maintain this cheerful personality.

He had a hard time at first learning English, having never heard a single word in that language before. His English is not perfect yet, but he can communicate perfectly well with other people using the basic words he knows.

His parents, however, still struggle; it's harder to learn at a certain age. His father goes to the factory every day to work because it's the only place where he is accepted with his limited English and fake papers. His mother is still quite traumatized from North Korea; leaving her house is already an achievement.

She bakes cakes during the day and always prepares the meals. With his father's low income, Haechan quickly found himself forced to work too if they want to repay the loan for their house. Donghyuck is clearly not proud of the job he does; he doesn't talk about it to anyone. His parents know he's involved in shady business but prefer not to say anything.

The subject is taboo, but his parents say nothing as long as Donghyuck comes back alive and with money. Of course, they worry.

Donghyuck had to start school at a lower level since he didn't know the language and wasn't used to this kind of education. He is in his final year of high school at the age of 19. He made two friends in his class, Jisung and Chenle.

His parents laughed when they met them; they told Donghyuck that if he only made Asian friends, he would never integrate into the country. Donghyuck didn't choose them because they are Asian but because they are the only ones who came to talk to him.

Plus, Chenle speaks Chinese, and Jisung never learned to speak Korean since he has always lived here.

Donghyuck also took private English lessons from their neighbor. A lady offered to teach him English. It turned out she has two sons with whom Donghyuck gets along very well now.

The lady volunteered because they found out with surprise that she was Korean, so she helped Haechan to learn, and then Johnny, wanting to make some pocket money, goes home on weekends to teach the younger one. Even though now Johnny does it more out of friendship and doesn't make Donghyuck pay anymore.

Johnny and Jeno don't speak Korean; their mother never taught them. They only know insults. Donghyuck finds it funny when the two of them spew a bunch of insults that don't mean anything due to their bad pronunciation.
