I know I write a lot about pinky promises
Most of my poems end with them,
Even a few stories
I think people often forget the importance of a pinky promise
In the same way they forget other playground rituals
A pinky promise is the promise of all promises
A pinky promise say "no matter what storm may arise, no matter how far you may part, you keep it"
Even if you are no longer acquainted
It's a promise to keep a promise to a strangers
A pinky promise is an innocent, simple act
But, damn does it mean something so important
The one promise you should never break
And when it's broken, so is the person attached,
The trust can never be won back
The child within can never feel safe again
I mean, how could he?
He thought pinky promises were forever and could never be undone
Told from childhood that a pinky promise held more weight than any word
Only for pinkies to be broken again and again, limply laying against my palm
But, as always, I bandage it up, putting my faith in pinky promises once again
A pinky promise will forever be my only promise because I will always believe in the magic that they hold
