Memories and Poetry

My poetry is a mix then and now
From you to him and back again
Word after word
Sentence after sentence
I cherish each memory
Using them to grow
Using them as a rough blueprint with him
I know what I want and what I don't
I know who I want to be
Just from the memories
Your hand dips into each new adventure
You take a seat in the corner, your knees to your chest
Hidden in the shadows where only I can see you
He will never know the unclaimed poems are for you
Unlike you
Who reads them all
Knowing just which ones are for you
Even if you will only admit it under the cover of night while they sleep peacefully besides you
Blissfully unaware, as you replay our memories on repeat just like me
