Side by side, they made their way to the first hospital on Shoko's list. The city buzzing with life around them as they walked.
"So, I doubt the hospitals will let you treat their patients without any authorization. Is this going to be a super secret mission where we treat them before the doctors notice and then make a quick escape? If so, I'm up for it.." (Y/N) asked, adjusting his grip on the suitcase.
Shoko chuckled lightly before turning her head towards (Y/N), "Unfortunately, no. Revealing my Reverse Cursed Technique would risk exposing the Jujutsu society to the public, just like any other cursed techniques. And besides, just imagine the demand I'd get if people found out I can finish a surgery in less than a minute compared to regular surgeons."
(Y/N) imagined Shoko in the emergency room, running around non-stop, healing all the injured patients while more arrived.
He snorted slightly, finding the mental image amusing.
"What we're doing in all these hospitals is searching for people suffering from curse-related injuries or just curses themselves. You've seen on TV how some illnesses baffle modern medicine, right? Those are usually curse-related. Typically, you'll find around five people in every hospital dealing with that," Shoko explained, taking out a cigarette.
"Every few months, I go around major cities and treat these cases. I also get to learn how hospitals operate, including what the doctors and nurses do, so it's kinda worth it." Shoko added as she lit her cigarette and took a deep inhale.
(Y/N) nodded as he listened, all the while a question formed in his mind.
"After high school, are you planning to become a doctor?"
Shoko paused for a second, then exhaled a plume of smoke into the air. "Probably... After all, I've been told my whole life that I should become one. One that works for the Jujutsu society, of course."
"Hmm... A doctor, huh..." (Y/N) put his hand on his chin and nodded thoughtfully.
"Although, if I want to become one, I'll have to study for six years in medical school before applying for a license... Don't tell anyone, but I'm thinking of cheating if it's like that... Like forging my eligibility documents," Shoko said, her tone conspiratorial, expecting (Y/N) to judge her.
"I mean, if you don't get caught, go for it," (Y/N) replied casually, his expression calm.
Shoko's eyes widened as she turned to face him fully.
"Unexpected reaction once again, (Y/N). Thought you would scold me or something."
(Y/N) shrugged, his hand slipping into his pocket. "Why would I?"
"I just thought that you were more of a 'hard work comes first' type of guy," Shoko explained, still surprised by his response.
"Well, hard work is good and all, but if it doesn't help you get what you want, there's no point. In that regard, I'm more of a 'do whatever it takes to get what you want' guy," (Y/N) said with a sheepish laugh.
Shoko took a drag from her cigarette, exhaled a plume of smoke, and replied.
"You and I share the same life philosophy then."
