The shockwave from the explosion swept across the battlefield, the force of it causing (Y/N) to shield his eyes

When he opened them again, the scene before him left him speechless, his mouth agape.

The church building had been completely destroyed, and at its center were holes as if someone had perfectly erased those parts. The devastation was absolute.

And Toji...

His entire left side of the body had been wiped out of existence. It was an anomaly that he was still standing.

Gojo finally descended from the sky and landed in front of Toji. It was his way of respect for the soon to be dead warrior.

The two seemed to converse a little, probably Toji sharing his last words, but (Y/N) couldn't hear any of it.

Because... Toji's life wasn't the only thing that was about to die.

(Y/N)'s dream. His dream to become the Strongest...

It was a fact that (Y/N) always hated being inferior to others. But that wasn't the main reason.

He wanted to become a person everyone can depend on. A person who can instill happiness, safety, and hope into others. A person who can save his loved ones from anything in life.

That was always his dream. That's what he wanted the most in life...

But now... Now, it seemed like it was about to die out-

"(Y/N)."

(Y/N) glanced up to see Gojo walking towards him.

Behind him, Toji had passed away.

He died standing up...

"This guy... He could've hightailed out of here right after my first attack, but he didn't. Why do you think so?"

Gojo asked, genuinely curious.

(Y/N) remained silent, barely processing what he was hearing.

"I guess that's a question for later..." Gojo said, starting to walk towards the remains of the church building. "You can sense it too, right? There's an underground room here. That's probably where Amanai is..."

But before he went further, he stopped, turning his head slightly to ask the main thing on his mind.

"Could you... Could you still catch up?"

Context wasn't needed as both knew what it meant.

For (Y/N), those words felt impossible... Like asking Sisyphus to hold the boulder in place at the top of the mountain.

That's why it didn't take too long to answer.

"No..."

His answer was short. But the tone of (Y/N)'s voice conveyed a thousand words and as much as Gojo didn't want to admit, it was sincere.

"I see..."

Gojo spoke quietly, not turning back to face (Y/N).

After a few seconds, he proceeded to continue walking, leaving (Y/N) behind.
