Toji quickly scanned the area, his mind racing as he devised a plan to attack.
He knew he couldn't stay on the ground too long; (Y/N) could strike at any moment from his cursed energy-infused terrain. Glancing towards the remaining pillars and back to (Y/N), he formulated a strategy.
With a determined grip on his weapons, Toji leaped towards the pillars. Using them as springboards, he bounced off, propelling himself towards (Y/N) with remarkable speed.
(Y/N) remained calm, activating his simple domain in preparation for a counterattack the moment Toji reached him. But Toji had a trick up his sleeve.
Just before closing the distance, Toji's cursed spirit worm spat out dozens of fly heads, filling the air with buzzing insects that obscured (Y/N)'s vision.
The fly heads began to spread out quickly, creating a dense cloud that concealed Toji's movements.
"You used this trick on Gojo, didn't you?"
(Y/N) said, his voice quiet but loud enough for Toji to hear through the cacophony of buzzing.
The fly heads swarmed around, their noise making it nearly impossible for most sorcerers to focus their senses.
But (Y/N)'s ability to sense the cursed energy of humans and spirits was on an utterly different level. If asked, he could pinpoint a specific person in a crowd of thousands with ease.
Zenin Toji's body might have been devoid of any cursed energy, but his cursed spirit worm was not and (Y/N) had already locked onto its presence.
(Y/N) whipped his arm toward a specific direction, dark energy chains shooting out from it to grab Toji, who was preparing to attack. The chains wrapped around Toji's body, binding him tightly.
"What's wrong? Scared to face me head-on?" (Y/N) taunted, tilting his head as he began to pull Toji closer.
Toji's muscles strained as he fought to break free. However, not too long, as he with a slash of his dagger, severed the chains and jumped back.
(Y/N)'s eyes narrowed, recognizing the same dagger that had pierced through his technique before. Once again, it sliced through his defenses with ease.
Before Toji could conceal himself in the swarm of fly heads again, (Y/N) whipped his chained arms around, clearing the area in just a few swift movements. The fly heads were dispatched effortlessly, leaving Toji exposed.
Immediately, (Y/N) formed a wall of dark energy behind Toji, preventing any retreat.
Toji, sensing the impending attack, readied himself, his body tensed in anticipation. But his mouth slowly opened in shock as (Y/N) suddenly vanished, sucked down into the ground.
Toji's mind raced, contemplating all the possibilities. Was this part of (Y/N)'s technique? An illusion?
But all those thoughts were cut short when he felt the air in his body being sucked out from his lower torso. A sharp pain began to encase him as he looked down to find a hand protruding from his side.
"You didn't know I could do this, huh?"
(Y/N)'s voice echoed from behind.
Toji turned his head, his eyes wide with disbelief, to see (Y/N) emerging from the wall behind him, his hand stabbing through his torso.
It was a sneak attack Toji could never have anticipated and ironically, it was the same kind of attack he had used on Gojo earlier that day. Though (Y/N) was unaware of this.
Toji fell to his knees as (Y/N) withdrew his hand from his torso, blood dripping from the wound.
More blood soon started to drip from his mouth andhis weapons fell from his grasp, clattering to the ground.
Realizing that his attack might have been fatal, (Y/N) walked around Toji to face him.
"Before you go, tell me. Where is Gojo? What did you do to him—"
In a blink of an eye, just like a quick draw, Toji grabbed his dagger and stabbed (Y/N) in the torso.
The movement was so fast that (Y/N), despite his heightened senses, barely had time to react. His guard had been down, but this was the kind of skill only someone as experienced as Toji could execute.
(Y/N) could only manage to grab Toji's wrist before the dagger could be driven deeper.
"Odds are even again. Should we continue?" Toji smirked, pulling the dagger out and causing (Y/N) to stagger back, blood seeping from the wound.
Toji stood up, gripping his katana, but then he paused, processing (Y/N)'s earlier question.
"Wait... What do you mean 'Where is he?'"
(Y/N)'s question was indeed strange. Toji had assumed (Y/N) was asking how he killed Gojo, but the phrasing suggested something else. Gojo's corpse should have been at the Tokyo campus where Toji had left it.
Confusion flickered in (Y/N)'s eyes too. If Toji didn't know where Gojo was, yet claimed to have killed him, what could that possibly mean-
Then.
A voice was heard. A voice both recognized...
"Hey there... It's been a while, huh?"
