Hand in hand, the two sisters walked along the promenade to the Sydney beach.Ombré shades broke out in the sky. The transparency of the sea reflected the rays of sun onto the girls, creating a golden hour shine on their tanned faces, Jess' freckles prominent in the sun.
Together, their arms swung with each step they took, taking in the sea air. Both of them wore their hair down, allowing it to flow in the calm winds. It was almost like a scene from a movie.
It was the day before the World Cup final. The girls had been given it to spend with their families, enjoying their final time.
With their family being limited though, it had ended up only being Leah and Jess spending the day together. She had contemplated inviting Lia, but decided on settling for some much needed time with her and Jess.
There had been limited amounts of that since coming to Australia.
So much of her time was spent training, playing and recovering. When she finally had some free time, Leah had found that it was usually spent with at least a couple of others on the team. They had all really taken a liking to Jess, and Jess had taken a likening to all of them.
As much as she loved the relationship her sister had built with the team, she was grateful for a moment of it just being them. It was what she needed, right before the final.
It was perfect. She couldn't have asked for anything better for the two of them.
The hands which weren't holding the others, were holding onto ice cream, per Jess' request. She couldn't have said no to her, the small girls bright blue eyes glistening in the sun.
They continued their calm walk down the promenade, settling on some pebbles. They had a view which overlooked the sea, which calmly came into shore. The waves were running at a pace which resembled peace, the sun beginning to set over the ocean.
It was a scene made of dreams.
Jess found herself simply leaning her head onto Leah's shoulder.
The older woman was almost certain she was getting chocolate ice cream all over the shoulder pad of her white Gucci top in doing so, but she wasn't going to ruin the moment.
Instead, she simply stroked her hair through the thick strands of her sisters lions mane, allowing it to embrace the sea air.
She heard the small girl take a deep breath in, relaxing in her space,
"I'm so proud of you Leah." She said, keeping her eyes firmly on the ocean waves in front. At no point did they waver, drilled into watching the life in the sea go by.
That was more this okay for Leah.
"Yeah?" She questioned, also keeping her eyes firmly in front of them.
Leah didn't want to pressure her into thinking she had to maintain eye contact with her, deciding to also keep her eyes on the sea for the sake of her sister.
"Yeah. You've done really well. I love you loads. I'm so proud your my sister."
She felt the tears well up in her eyes as Jess spoke.
