Charlie Ross was a teenage runaway before she was rescued by a compassionate Linda Wilson. Three years later and currently in high school, life is only slightly less difficult as it was before. No longer running away from dangers outside, but she h...
Valentine's Day at school was cute, as the student council always did little festive things to add to the festivities. While in previous years, I may have scoffed (I definitely did), now I had a boyfriend and I was actually sort of excited for the holiday.
They had roses delivered during second period classes and I got one from Mason who sent one. What was an added bonus was that half the proceeds went to a local charity that they picked. During lunch they had Valentine's themed "Dont' Forget the Lyrics" with a bunch of love songs that people had to sing the next line to correctly for a small prize. While I would never even attempt it, it was fun to watch.
"So, what are you guys doing for Valentine's Day?" Emery asked Mason and I while the student council looked for their next victim – I mean, participant.
I looked to Mason to answer as I had no idea.
"It's a surprise," he beamed. Emery's face lit up at that.
"That's adorable!" she exclaimed. "You'll tell me when she's not next to you though, right?" She eyed Mason. He laughed and nodded.
"What about you guys?" I asked.
"Adam is taking me to the restaurant that we've been talking about going to for ages!" she grinned. I smiled at that, excited for her. It was cute to know we'd both have lots to catch up on tomorrow at lunch.

That evening I stared into my closet, unsure what to wear. While Emery had suggested multiple different outfits at lunch, I still didn't know what the plan was so I wasn't sure how to dress. I stared into the closet and bit my lip.
I'm never going to live this down... I thought as I dialled Emery's number.
"Young grass hopper, I anticpited your call," she said as she picked up. I laughed at that.
"I assume you managed to badger Mason into telling you what we're doing," I replied.
"You assume correctly," she confirmed.
"Great! So, don't ruin the surprise, but what do I wear?" I asked. She giggled and began helping me decide.
By the time I was done with the phone call, I was in a little black skirt, a reddish brown turtleneck tank top, and ankle boots to go with the outfit. I put in gold earrings and threw my leather jacket over my shoulders.
I left my hair down – as per Emery's suggestion– and did some light makeup. By the time I was done, the doorbell rang and let out a sigh of relief.
Just in time, I thought to myself.
I headed down the stairs and noticed Lorraine had beat me to the door. She was dressed up and looked gorgeous. She turned to face me before opening the door.
"Stunning!" she exclaimed, grinning at me. I smiled at that.
"Thank you, so are you," I replied, trying to hide my blush. She smiled and opened the door. When I laid eyes on Mason my breath hitched in my throat. He looked so handsome in his black button down shirt, with a gold chain peaking through. He was holding roses.
"You kids have fun! Don't do anything I wouldn't do!" she said with a wink, before leaving us in the foyer.
"Happy Valentines' Day," Mason said shyly.
"Happy Valentines' Day," I replied with a smile.
