After I put the flowers in a vase, Mason and I went out to his car. As he sat down he held up a little cloth.

"Your sense of direction is far too good for me to surprise you," he said with a grin. I laughed and turned around so he could put the blindfold on me.

Once he was sure that the blind blindfold was secure and not see through, he drove off. We didn't feel like we were going too far, but really I couldn't be sure, as I couldn't see.

Finally we parked, and Mason helped me out of the car. We walked for a couple moments before I vaguely heard a door open. Immediately I was greeted with soft music and a delicious smell of food. It felt warmer, so I knew we were inside, but I didn't hear any voices, other than Mason, so I was completely thrown off. We walked a few more steps and then Mason took my blindfold off. My eyes widened as I saw what was in front of me.

There was a candle lit picnic spread in the middle of his living room and it rendered me speechless for a moment. The overhead lights were off and there were numerous candles spread around the room and on the blanket. The furniture had been rearranged to accommodate the set up, whether it was pushed to the side of the room or removed altogether. There were cushions on the edges of the blanket to sit and lean on, a charcuterie platter, rose petals scattered and two place settings.

"Oh my gosh," I finally gasped. "Mason, this is incredible! You're incredible!"

"Do you like it?" he asked shyly.

"I love it!" I turned around and gave him a huge hug. The smile on his face warmed my heart more than what I was already feeling from the thoughtful surprise.

We walked into the room and sat down on the picnic blanket. I reached into my purse and pulled out the present I had for him.

"It's nothing huge, but Happy Valentine's Day," I said with a nervous chuckle. Mason looked a little surprised but smiled and took the present. He opened the little gift bag it was in and pulled out a brown leather-bound book. The pages were blank inside and thicker than the average notebook.

"This is the nicest sketchbook I've ever seen," Mason beamed. I smiled as I felt relief wash over me. "I love it! Thank you," he added. "Ready to eat?"

"Oh totally," I replied.

"Great! I'll warn you, I'm not as good a cook as my mom, but I did my best," Mason laughed.

"I'm sure it's perfect," I replied. He got up and went into the kitchen and a few moments later came back with two plates of lasagna, with green beans on the side. Once again, I was surprised. It smelled incredible and I knew it would taste just as good.

The rest of the evening was spent eating, laughing, asking each other fun questions, and then we cleaned up the picnic before Mason drove me home. It felt nice to enjoy each other's company, rather than feel like we had to solve all the world's problems in one night. He kissed me goodbye on the front steps, and that night I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
