Y/n's POV:

Three days had passed since my conversation with the God siblings, and no more bad news from Asgard had reached us. I was relieved to have them here, close by, where I knew they'd be safe. I was fully aware of their strength and skill—of how effortlessly they could protect themselves—but even the fiercest warrior's mother weeps when her child marches off to war, no matter how long the battle has raged. Not eve the mightiest warrior cannot shield himself from fate.

Fate.

A small word, yet it carries the weight of a thousand lives.
A word as hollow as it is heavy.
What is fate, really? Was my escape from Hydra fate, or just survival dressed up to look noble? Was crossing paths with these people fate—or just a cruel coincidence dressed as destiny? Did fate pull Loki and me together, or was it the Devil's favorite game, played at my expense? Losing someone you love—is that fate, or just life reminding you how easily it can break you? Was the attack on Asgard fate calling us to account—or merely punishment, raw and brutal, for sins long past and never forgiven? Everything had been going perfectly—until those damned Svartalfheim dark elves showed up, clawing their way out of nowhere, determined to overthrow Frigga and Odin and seize the throne of Asgard for themselves. I knew exactly how much help I could offer. How much help we could all offer.

"I didn't know you were a philosopher."

The voice cut through the storm inside my head, pulling me back to the present. I turned away from the rain-darkened view beyond the lounge window and met Loki's unmistakably mischievous eyes.

"I didn't know you enjoyed eavesdropping on people's private thoughts in your spare time," I said sending him a soft smile.

"Ah, but darling, mischief is my nature. You really should have expected better from me by now." He chuckled, a low, playful sound. But the moment his eyes truly focused on me—really saw me—the teasing faded from his face like mist burned off by the morning sun.

"Love, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice dropping to something gentler, rawer. "You know you can tell me anything. Those were some heavy thoughts swirling in that beautiful mind of yours. I know it was terribly improper of me to intrude your thoughts... but I felt something was wrong."

He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. On instinct, I rose and threw my arms around him. He staggered back a step, surprised by the sudden force of my hug, but quickly caught himself and wrapped me tightly in his arms.

"Still thinking about Asgard?" he asked, loosening his embrace so I could face him.

"How could I not?" I said, my voice tight with frustration. "That place is pure magic, pure wonder — and yet these awful creatures do everything they can to tear it apart. Yes, I know," I added quickly, catching the warning look in his eyes. "We've talked about this before. I know why you don't want me anywhere near Asgard when there's an attack. But I can't shake this feeling, Loki. It's like a storm sitting heavy in my gut. Something's wrong. Something terrible is about to happen — I can feel it. You have to believe me."

"Listen, Y/n," Loki said, his voice low and steady. "I do believe you. I just don't like it—any of it. I don't want anything bad happening to you, to my brother, to my parents, or to my realm for that matter. We're doing everything we can to keep those elves from seizing the throne. Asgard has survived worse threats before. We will survive this too."
He paused, searching my face.
"But if it's that important to you—if it will help you rest at night—then I swear to you: the moment things turn bad, even the slightest, I'll call for you. I promise."
