"Follow the yellow brick road!" Zoey sang as she skipped. She, Mackenzie, Felix, and Melody, all were walking to a cemetery that Felix told them all about.
"Would you stop that?" Felix asks Zoey as she continues the song.
"Well, since you asked nicely." Zoey stops and let's them catch up to her.
"Which you didn't." She says to Felix, who just gives her an exaggerated smile.
"Hey look!" Mackenzie said, motioning over to a fallen tree that fell perfectly over a little river.
"What do you think is on the other side?" Melody asks as she walked over next to her.
"Only one way to find out." Mackenzie said as she starts to cross it. She makes it over with ease, followed by Melody who walks over it steadily, but much slower.
"You guys coming?" Mackenzie asks Felix and Zoey, who are standing back, uncomfortably.
"It's not that hard!" Melody says, trying to get them to come over.
"Okay.." Felix says as he steps on the log and immediately starts to wobble.
"Careful!" Melody says, as she squeezes a tree branch, cringing every time he slips.
"Thanks god.." Melody says as he walks onto the ground in the other side, and she hugs him tightly.
"I made it across!" Felix said, pushing her away slightly and laughing.
"A little help here?!" Zoey says as she starts to crawl across the log.
"What are you doing?" Mackenzie says with a little laugh.
"Eating dinner, what do you think I'm doing! I'm getting across this death trap!" Zoey says as she makes it half way.
"Hurry it up!" Felix says as he starts to climb up the hill.
Mackenzie and Melody follow, and Zoey runs up when she finishes.
"It's a field." Felix says looking around when he got to the top.
"We went through all that trouble... For a field." He says, extremely disappointed.
"Oh well, let's just go back." Mackenzie says as she heads down the hill.
"Easy for you to say, you can probably run across that log without a problem!" Zoey says as she walks up next to Mackenzie.
Mackenzie went first, once again without a problem. She even did a little turn in the middle.
Melody on the other hand slipped, and almost fell off into the river.
"I'm not going last again." Zoey said as she pushed past Felix and started to crawl.
"Go on ahead." Felix said to pretty much himself since Zoey and everyone else obviously wasn't listening.
He went after Zoey made it across safely, he slipped and his feet came out from under him.
"FELIX!" Melody screamed as he fell onto his butt on the log.
"I'm okay!" He said as he got up, slipping again.
"Oh.. Nonononono..." Melody said as she started pacing.
"There!" Felix said as he jumped off onto the land.
"So where do we go now?" Mackenzie asked as she looked down the path that had a left turn.
"Just keep following the path, cross the bridge, and there you are." Felix said, giving them light directions.
"The pond is so beautiful!" Mackenzie said looking at the little pond.
"It is!" Melody agreed.
"That thing is gross, look how filthy it is." Zoey said, crushing their spirits.
"How deep do you think it is?" Melody asked looking down into the murky water, that looks peaceful from the distance.
"I doubt it's that deep, two feet maybe?" Felix wonders looking into the murk.
Melody tosses a big rock into the water that splashed all of them.
"I can't even see it, must be deep." Mackenzie says as she leans over the little stone platform.
Felix pretends to push her in, laughing.
Melody and Zoey also laugh, making Mackenzie look at them in suspicion.
"Come on, it's this way." Felix says gesturing to the little area with grass.
Mackenzie runs forward and does an aerial.
She makes it look so easy.
"This, here, is a bridge I can cross." Felix says when they get to a wide wooden bridge.
"It would be sad if you couldn't." Zoey says patting his shoulder.
"Look at this." Mackenzie says as they enter a clearing with a collection of graves.
"It's like they were a family. I would want my family to be buried like this..." She said, observing the scene.
"Yeah, for a graveyard, it's actually really peaceful." Melody agrees.
They all head out and Melody stops suddenly.
"Y'all better not step there.. Or there." Melody says pointing to areas with in- ground headstones.
"Why?" Felix says, walking forward to step there.
"Because stepping on someone's grave is bad luck, and you will disturb the person." Melody said as she grabbed his arm.
"Oh." Felix said, taking a step back.
"Come on Melody, you don't really believe in that, do you?" Zoey asked, annoyed at her superstitions.
"Yes, I do." Melody said.
"Come on, let's just keep walking." Felix said as he walked up to a little path circling the cemetery.
"Do you guys ever miss anyone from our old life?" Melody asked them as they walked.
"Yeah, my mom." Mackenzie said.
"She taught me all of my first gymnastics skills." She said remembering landing an aerial for the first time, and her mom's proud face.
"Me too, and my sister, and my d-" Felix stopped before he could say his dad, of course he missed him, but he was gone already.
"I would have to say my older brother. We would always play a game of one on one in the park a little walk from my house, and he was always just there for me." Melody said, starting to feel sad.
"I wish I could just message him, ask what's up." Melody said.
"Who would you guys message? If you only had one to send." Melody asked as she kicked a dandelion head off.
Wait... Does she know? Did Jace tell her about Avia?
Felix thought, but then quickly brushed it off.
No one answered the question, knowing it was no use to answer it, it's not like they actually could, well, except Felix.
"Why are we even here in the first place?" Zoey asked Felix.
"Jace told me about this place, said its really quiet, and it's just relaxing and peaceful." Felix said stopping at a grave with flowers all around it.
"Okay.." Zoey said, looking around.
"Honestly, cemeteries kind of scare me." Melody says as she also looks around.
"Everything scares you, Melody." Mackenzie says with a laugh.
"Yeah, but I don't care." She says.
After a bit of silenced walking, Melody breaks off the silence.
"You guys know what color my hair used to be?" Melody asks with a grin.
"Brown." Zoey guessed.
"Blonde." Felix guessed.
Mackenzie stayed quiet, because she already knew, they were best friends since high school, when their two middle schools merged with each other.
"Both of you are wrong, it was this nasty shade of dirty blonde, it almost looked greenish..." Melody said in disgust, remembering her old hair color.
"Hey! Your hair was really pretty!" Mackenzie said, laughing a little.
"How do you know?" Felix asked, confused.
"Umm..." Mackenzie said, not wanting to tell them they knew each other, they weren't supposed to have any past relationship with other people at camp, except for family, with generations.
"I showed her an old picture. On my phone." Melody said quickly.
*good save* Mackenzie mouthed over to Melody, who just nodded subtly.
"Hey.. Who's that over there?" Melody whispered tensely.
There was a man, wearing a black coat, and black jeans standing over by an old car, watching them.
"Melody, it's a cemetery, people come and visit loved ones." Mackenzie said, trying to reassure her.
"Yeah, he's old, he's probably seeing his wife or something." Zoey adds.
"Okay.." Melody said, still unsure.
He gets into the car and drives off, he stops on the other side of the cemetery, the side closer to them.
"Guys.. I'm actually getting scared now." Melody said, backing up a little, closer to Mackenzie.
"Oh would you stop." Felix said, shoving her arm a little.
"No! He's giving me the creeps!" Melody said, as she starts to walk off.
"Where are you going?" Zoey asks, watching her walk off.
"Away from him!" She says, as she walks over to a part of the cemetery they haven't been to before.
The man gets back into his car after a few minutes, and actually leaves.
"So, what are we going to do here?" Zoey asks as they all walk through the grass.
"I don't really know, it's better than just sitting around all day." Felix said.
"Guys, you are all stepping on the graves." Melody said, as she starts making a zig- zag around the headstones.
The others soon also do this.
"Uhh.. I think I'm in a bit of a pickle." Felix said as he was in the middle of four graves.
"How did you do that?" Mackenzie asks laughing.
"I don't know, but I want out." Felix said as he tries to jump over them, but ends up stepping in front of one.
"I am sorry." He said to the grave before walking out.
"I am sorry?" Zoey asked questioningly.
"Yeah, I apologized for stepping on their grave and disturbing them." Felix said matter- of- factly.
They walk on the path again, not wanting to walk over any graves.
"We haven't been through there yet." Mackenzie says, pointing over to a little grass path through the middle of the cemetery.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" Melody screams when she sees a little doll on one of the graves.
Mackenzie and Felix turn around instantly.
"What's wrong?" Mackenzie asks, getting nervous.
"D-d-do-doll!" Melody manages to get out.
She starts breathing really hard, and black creeps up on her vision.
"I'm gonna.. Pass.. Ou-" before she can finish the sentence she blacks out.
"Melody?" Mackenzie says her name as she walks over to her.
Zoey walks over too, and kicks her arm.
"Don't kick her!" Felix says to Zoey, who shrugs.
"We shouldn't keep her here." Mackenzie says, looking around for a better place to bring her.
"How about that tree over there?" Mackenzie offers, pointing over to a big tree about a hundred feet from where they were.
"How is she going to get there? Will she walk?" Zoey says, seeing the distance.
Without saying anything, Felix walks over and picks her up.
"I can carry her." He says.
"Ooooohhhh!" Zoey says, elbowing him.
"Stop." Felix says flatly.
He sits her under the tree when they get there, she's still out cold.
"How are we going to wake her up?" Mackenzie asks.
"How about we throw some water from that pond into her face?" Zoey asks with a laugh.
"Eww, no." Mackenzie says with a look of disgust on her face.
"Uhhh... What... What was that?" Melody asks, waking up.
"You passed out." Zoey says, stepping forward.
"AAAHH!" Melody screams again after Felix scares her by sneaking up behind the tree.
"What the heck was that?!" Melody says angrily, and punches his arm hard.
"Oww!" Felix says, rubbing his arm.
"SPIDER!" Mackenzie yells and hops back from the tree.
"Where?" Zoey asks, walking up a bit.
"THERE!" Mackenzie points to the big spider hanging from the tree.
"Oh come on, it's not going to bite you, it's a southern tree spider, they don't bite." Felix says as he remembers reading about them.
"Okay know- it- all, if you really know everything, why is Melody shaking?" Zoey asks after looking at Melody, who is shaking like crazy.
"Melody why are you shaking?" Mackenzie asks.
"I.. D- don't know.." Melody says.
"I th-think I'm h-having a p-panic at-tack!" Melody says as the ground starts swaying.
"Here just walk it off." Zoey says as Mackenzie gives her a hand up.
Melody starts breathing hard again, and shaking even more.
Felix takes her hand in his and they keep walking.
"Look at that!" Felix says as they pass a tree stump with a couple water bottles on it.
"Eww, that's nasty, Felix, why would you touch that?" Zoey asks as Felix picks up one of the bottles.
"They're everywhere! Do you see it too? There are dolls all over the place, they're all.. Watching me..!" Melody panics.
"I think she's loosing it." Zoey whispers to Mackenzie.
"Oh my god!" Felix says as he grabs her hand again.
"Just don't think about it!" He says.
They then walk by another doll.
"AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" Melody screams again, and runs off as fast as she possibly can.
"Are you kidding me right now." Felix says as he stands and watches her sprint off.
"Let's go before she trips and kills herself." Zoey says, running after her.
"Are you okay?" Mackenzie asks Melody as she runs up behind her.
Melody shakes her head as tears run down her cheeks.
"Yeesh, you must be really scared of dolls." Zoey says after seeing her start to cry.
"And that doll, it was a little girl's who died of cancer. She was just seven." Felix said looking sad.
"Oh.." Melody said, feeling a little bad.
"Why don't we walk around once more? I think dinner should be soon." Zoey offered and they stay to walk.
"I'm starving." Melody says, breaking the silence.
"You're always starving." Felix says.
"You calling me fat?" Melody asks with a small laugh.
"Extremely." Felix responds.
"You're lucky I like you." Melody says, fighting the urge to punch him.
"See those headstones?" Zoey asks, pointing to some rectangular headstones.
"Yeah, what about them?" Mackenzie asks, looking over.
"They look like chocolate bars." Zoey says, thinking of chocolate.
"Fatty." Felix says laughing.
"What?" Zoey asks, getting a little offended.
"The first thing you think of is chocolate? Not the poor people buried under them?" Felix asks arching an eyebrow.
"I like chocolate, so what." Zoey says as she kicks a pebble on the path.
"Oh my god I'm so hungry I can eat Mackenzie." Melody said as her stomach grumbles.
"Not much you can eat here." Mackenzie said, pinching her arm.
"Eat the fatty!" Felix says as he starts to crack up.
"Yeah, come here Zoey!" Melody says as she starts to chase Zoey through the grass.
"YOU'RE CRAZY!" Zoey yells as Melody grabs her arm.
"I'm not really going to eat you." Melody said as she starts to laugh.
"What do you think is for dinner?" Mackenzie asks them when they catch up.
"Probably something gross, like meat." Felix says gagging.
"I like the food here." Zoey says.
"Me too." Melody agrees.
"I like it, just not the chicken.." Felix says.
They start to walk out of the cemetery.
"What was y'all's favorite place to eat?" Melody asks as they head back into the woodsy road.
"I liked Chick-fil-A." Melody said.
"I guess I would have to say SubWay." Mackenzie said after thinking for a bit.
"Burger King..." Zoey said remembering always taking gone of the crowns no matter how old she got.
"What about you, Felix?" Mackenzie asked Felix.
"I didn't go out much.. You know, not too many vegetarian places out there." Felix said.
"Oh yeah, I forgot, you don't eat meat." Mackenzie said.
"What about fish?" Zoey asked.
"Eww, seafood is disgusting." Felix said with a cringe.
Melody and Mackenzie nodded their heads in agreement.
"Really? I love seafood!" Zoey said laughing at their faces.
"I guess lobster isn't that bad... But it wouldn't be my first choice for dinner." Melody said.
"I like salmon, and perch, shrimp, crab, well I pretty much eat any fish. Except clams, those are gross." Zoey said.
"HEY A SQUIRREL!" Felix yells as he starts running after a squirrel near the front gate. It ran away in a second.
"Awww." Felix said with disappointment.
"HEY LET US IN!" Melody yelled through the gate that Zoey locked.
"WHY?" She yelled back with a laugh.
"Oh come on Zoey!" Mackenzie said.
"FINE!" Zoey said still laughing. They walked into the camp without any further problems.
