I pressed stop on the laptop and turned to Kawana and Dinah. "So what y'all think about the song." I asked wanting to know their opinion. "Its amazing. I love it!" Dinah yelled. "I love it too. I'm know mama is going to love it too." Wana said. "Yeah. Do you remember when my dad used to record us playing around and stuff?" I asked my cousin. "Yeah why?" She asked confused. "Because…" I trailed off. I reached into my book bag and lulled out a camera. "Before left the Bronx I went back home. I went into my dads old room and found his camera." I set the camera down on the table. "On this camera is the second time we worked on the song. We didn't write anything but we went over how the song would go. He recorded it on here because he wanted to have a remember this. I think I should show mama." I explained to the two girls. "I think you should." Dana said. "Yeah it would be a good birthday gift. Plus she lost everything she had of him. I'm glad I found this." I said. "Show it to here last after everyone gives her her gifts." Dinah said. I agreed and we got ready to go.

~~~skip to next week~~~
"Alright everyone! Its my turn to give mama a gift." I announced. "Its about damn time. I thought you forgot about me." Mama joked. "Nah I didn't forgot. I just saved the best for last." I grabbed laptop and set the camera to it. "What you got there?" She asked. "Well… you know how we lost all of dads stuff mysteriously? We didn't lose everything. The is is his camera." I told her. She gasped and covered her mouth. "Your not fucking me are you?" She asked. "No I'm not. You remember when dad and I started writing a song for you?" I asked and she nodded. "Yeah but you two never finished it." She said. "Let me show you this video first before I go on. Its me and dad going over the song." I said and clicked play. Everyone gathered around to look at the video.
"Is this thing on?" Dad asked looking into the lenses. "Yeah. Its been on for the past five minutes." I said. "And how do you know. I don't even know how to work this new thing." He asked and backed away from the lenses. When he backed away I was seen sitting on the bed. "Because the red light is on. It says on this paper when the red light is on that means you are recording." I said and pointing at the paper. He looked at the camera then at me. "Lets just start. Think you smart and shit." He mumbled.
After the video finished i clicked off the video. I looked at mama and she had tears in her eyes. "Now before you say something i have one more thing to show you." I said and clicked on the audio of the song. "So as you know we never finishes the song. So I thought, why not finish it. That's why i was in the studio last week. I thought this would be a great birthday present from dad and I." I told her. She smiled and held my hand. When nobody said anything I clicked play.
You are appreciated
When I was young, me and my mama had beef
17 years old, kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time I never thought I'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place
Suspended from school
And scared to go home, I was a fool
With the big boys breaking all the rules
I shed tears with my baby sister, over the years
We was poorer than the other little kids
And even though we had different daddies, the same drama
When things went wrong we'd blame mama
I reminisce on the stress I caused, it was hell
Huggin' on my mama from a jail cell
And who'd think in elementary, hey
I'd see the penitentiary one day?
And running from the police, that's right
Mama catch me, put a whoopin' to my backside
And even as a crack fiend, mama
You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
For a woman it ain't easy trying to raise a man
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how you did it
There's no way I can pay you back, but the plan
Is to show you that I understand; you are appreciated
Now, ain't nobody tell us it was fair
No love from my daddy, 'cause the coward wasn't there
He passed away and I didn't cry, 'cause my anger
wouldn't let me feel for a stranger
They say I'm wrong and I'm heartless, but all along
I was looking for a father he was gone
I hung around with the thugs
And even though they sold drugs
They showed a young brother love
I moved out and started really hangin'
I needed money of my own, so I started slangin'
I ain't guilty, 'cause even though I sell rocks
It feels good putting money in your mailbox
I love paying rent when the rent is due
I hope you got the diamond necklace that I sent to you
'Cause when I was low you was there for me
And never left me alone, because you cared for me
And I could see you coming home after work late
You're in the kitchen, trying to fix us a hot plate
You just working with the scraps you was given
And Mama made miracles every Thanksgivin'
But now the road got rough, you're alone
You're trying to raise two bad kids on your own
And there's no way I can pay you back, but my plan
Is to show you that I understand; you are appreciated
Pour out some liquor and I reminisce
'Cause through the drama I can always depend on my mama
And when it seems that I'm hopeless
You say the words that can get me back in focus
When I was sick as a little kid
To keep me happy, there's no limit to the things you did
And all my childhood memories
Are full of all the sweet things you did for me
And even though I act crazy
I gotta thank the Lord that you made me
There are no words that can express how I feel
You never kept a secret, always stayed real
And I appreciate how you raised me
And all the extra love that you gave me
I wish I could take the pain away
If you can make it through the night, there's a brighter day
Everything will be alright if you hold on
It's a struggle everyday, gotta roll on
And there's no way I can pay you back, but my plan
Is to show you that I understand; you are appreciated
"I love it." Mama said and pulled me into a tight hug. "So does this mean I gave you the best present." I asked her half joking. "Of course it is." She whispered. The girls awed at interaction.
