Maybe she walks with Elena to her classes when there's enough time between the periods. They sure seemed close.

Since I knew nobody else in that classroom, I headed toward Janet. She was sitting in the back of the room. Pushing back my fear of rejection, I placed my backpack next to the chair by janet and asked nicely if I could sit across from her.

The girl looked up at me. No expression. She just nodded through her zoned-out state. I wondered how in the world Janet was so happy and smiley around one person and then stoic and expressionless towards others. She wasn't exactly talking or smiling at any other student in the room. A lot of people were glancing my way. I assumed it was because of me being new. That seemed to be the obvious reason. The girls looked at the seats beside me and Janet. I was willing to bet that those girls were tempted to check to see what the new kid was like but didn't want to leave their original friends. I didn't care too much. My goal wasn't to have a million friends at this school, anyway. I just needed a couple, if that. Besides, Janet didn't seem too bad. I just hoped she was going to open up a little bit more in the future. I sighed dejectedly. My first day of my new high school classes begin.
