"I need a way to let everyone else know that you're mine," Wes said softly, reluctantly letting go of me. "Be my girlfriend?" He sounded nervous, and his expression showed it, too. I wondered then how many people ever saw Wes like that, vulnerable.

I smiled as an intense feeling of happiness went through me. "Yes!" I said, not hesitating in the slightest. I didn't focus on how having a 'boyfriend' would negatively affect me. All I could register right now was Wes. And I knew I loved him. It's not like I've loved anyone else so much before.

Wes's eyes widened briefly before his face broke out into a huge grin. He was perfectly positioned so that the sun hit his face and brought out his golden hair. "But know, since we're together, you can't flirt or do anything with other guys," he said with a slight edge in his tone that I'd barely caught.

"Of course, but you know that it's the same with you are other girls," I said, immediately remembering how Riley was in the hallway. I then wondered how many girls tried to flirt with Wes, the thought bringing an unfamiliar, ugly emotion I only ever experienced with him. Jealousy.

"I don't want anyone else," Wes said seriously. I nodded, relieved. "Me too," I said. Wes smiled. "I should probably leave. I don't want you to be late or get in trouble because of me," he said, running a hand through his short hair. Panic swelled in my chest as I imagined my mom's reaction to me being even slightly late. "I'll see you later," I said quickly.
