Chapter 14
I sat next to Elena, my gut wrenching at the thought of what the school would think, what the teachers thought of me not being there. They most likely told ny parents- they must have. Elena's next statement confirmed my fear.
"The office called your parents. I tried to bail you out. I told them I saw you in the hallways with Dylan. He decided to take the blame for you, you know. He let me tell them I saw you guys skipping. Dylan even stayed in the bathroom so they'd believe it. I mean, it's not the best excuse but It's better than sneaking out of the school!" Elena said, her voice rising in disbelief.
I didn't know what to say. I just asked the first thing that popped into my head. "Why did Dylan do it?" I asked. "Why did he help me?"
"He told me everything about what happened. He said he felt awful, that he couldn't believe he'd done that to you," Elena explained. I nearly scoffed.
"I guess it's nice he went through that to cover for me, but I'm not going to forgive him just like that," I said back.
The corners of her mouth tilted up almost sadly. "I get what you mean," she said quietly. I frowned at that. "What do you mean?" I gently asked.
