I raised one eyebrow. "How do you know I'm new here?" Wesley shrugged. "I would notice someone like you." Again, his tone changed slightly. It was softer and definitely gentler than the teasing one from before. I could tell by the way his face turned red that I probably wasn't meant to hear him say that.

"Well it was nice talking to you, Wesley. If you'll excuse me, I have an errand to run."

He stayed rooted to the spot looking after me with an unreadable expression. I was going to be late if I didn't hurry up and drop of the attendance. I turned the knob to the office door and stepped inside, not looking back.

The office was made of white walls, a dark wooden desk with a stern lady seated behind it, and a small hallway that turned left into what I assumed was the principal's office.

I dropped off the attendance quickly, not wanting to meet the gaze of the women's cold eyes. No wonder she worked up front. I'm sure she humbled every student who got in trouble before they had to speak to the principal.

She barely muttered a 'thanks' as she continued looking through her paperwork. I turned to leave and opened the door knob. I wasn't paying attention as I walked the first few steps. "What the heck, Wesley?!" I cried quietly after I bumped into something hard and I would have almost toppled over if it weren't for his hands gripping my arms, steadying me. After his slightly panicked expression faded almost immediately, he quickly pressed a finger to his lips as if trying to shush me. Wesley gently grabbed my arm and led me the short distance to the stairs. "You could've gotten us in trouble, you know. Ms. Sensiba is known around her for being cruel when it comes to school misdemeanors, like talking loudly in the hall. Gosh, Flora, you're pretty lucky you've got me to help you out with this kind of stuff."
