Chapter 38

~Darcy's POV~

I woke up gasping for breath. It felt like there was a pressure in my head, a strange sense of fullness that I had never experienced before. I glanced around, taking in my surroundings as my heart began to beat faster and faster in my chest. I was in a small room, one that could easily be crossed in just a handful of strides. The walls were an almost blinding white that were accented by a white painted brick floor. My breathing became heavier as my mind began to panic. Instantly images from my past flashed through my head of being trapped in my father's closet, causing a gnawing feeling to spread in my chest. I was stunned when an almost debilitating hunger flooded through me, as my body remembered the starvation that had almost killed me time and time again while I had been locked in my father's closet. I felt my fear spike as wave after wave of memories hit me, each bring another sense of hopelessness soaring though my veins.

"Oh calm down, Darcy we aren't going to die in here." To say I was startled to hear Dion's voice was an understatement. I had barely taken in the single bed that lay in nearly the corner of the room. Beside it was a gap of space, where I could only assume Dion was lying. He hoisted himself up by his elbows and then shot me an annoyed look.

"You smelled like you were about to pass out. I haven't been in a room with someone that panicked in a long time. What did mommy and daddy lock you in a closet when you were younger?" I visibly cringed at his words, and Dion looked almost startled that his backhanded comment had been right.

"Look I didn't mean-,"

"Let's just find a way out of here, okay? Just because I'm working with you doesn't mean I like you." It was a deflection, but it seemed to work because Dion started to survey the room.

"Darcy, there isn't even a door in this place...," this time I could hear the alarm in his voice. By the look on his face, he must of realized that what he said wasn't helping the still raging fears I had swirling inside me.

"Just calm down, there's got to be a door around here somewhere. Help me feel around for some sort of lever or something-,"

"Boys, boys, boys. Who said that you were really even in a room?" The second the voice filled the air, the scenery changed, shifting from a windowless room to a scenic outdoor waterfall. The sounds of birds filled the air and I couldn't help but turn around, absorbing the wildlife around me. In all of my travels I had never seen a place like this before.

"That's because this place doesn't exist, not in your world anyway." Her words instantly triggered something.

Not in your world anyway.

"You're not human are you?"

"Of course not you silly boy. What could possibly make you think I was? Do you think you would be able to be in a place like this if I was just one of those precious humans that you seem to love so much? No, I'm much more than that." All of a sudden Dion let out a cry of revelation.

"Silvia! What-," the name instantly sent shivers down my spine, and not in a good way. Hadn't he almost killed Silvia before? Why did it take so long for him to recognize her?

"Finally, I get to see your face. I have to say, it is much nicer to be able to put a face to the name." My eyes flickered to Silvia's blue eyes. She met my gaze before breaking it, she lightly ran her hand through her red hair before turning her gaze back to me.

"You're Silvia?"

"Oh it's been such a long time since I've seen you. The last time you were just a baby. You were my first, you know. You may not have turned out as magnificently as your sister, but even I can sense that power you have lingering under that human coat of yours." Human coat? Her words sickened me and I couldn't keep the disgusted look off of my face.
