Q: jack-o-lanterns or skeletons?

(No pairing)

Virgil glared at the man in front of him, in his shaking hands he held a pistol, his finger resting on the trigger. “Where are they?” He snarled, his eyes hard with hatred and disgust toward the man.

The man chuckled and adjusted his hat that sat crookedly on his head. “I'll tell you once you get rid of the gun.” He said, cocking his head to the side almost tauntingly. “In your dreams.” Virgil scoffed, a scowl pulled at his lip. “Alright, then let's do it your way.” The man reached for his pocket and pulled out a pistol of his own, Virgil tensed and gritted his teeth. “I'll shoot you! Don't you dare move.” He demanded.

The man merely smiled, it sent shivers down Virgil's spine, his body prickled with goosebumps, and his legs trembled beneath him. “How about a game?” The man teased. “Ever learned about how people used to settle things back then? Turn your backs, take ten steps then turn and shoot.” Virgil felt his blood run cold, just how demented was this guy?

“By the look on your face I can tell you probably have. So? Is it a deal? It's a win win for either of us.” He questioned. “How do I know you won't cheat?” Virgil frowned. “Oh, I never cheat when it comes to games.” He assured and played with the trigger of his gun. Virgil was hesitant at first, he was never one to hurt anyone, much less kill someone.

But this person had taken everything away from him, he took his family and his loved ones, he took his home.

His every reason to get up in the morning....

He tightened his grip on his gun and glared daggers at the man. “Deal.” He spat out and checked to see if his gun was loaded. Had it been for the recent situation, he would have laughed at the irony.

There was only one bullet.

Of all the things that could've gone wrong.

“We turn our backs now!” The man shouted, and at the same time they both turned around. Virgil cursed under his breath and prepared himself.

“One!”

Virgil took a hesitant step forward.

“Two!”

He always hated violence, it always scared Patton.

“Three!”

What would Patton say if he were here? Surely he'd be disappointed and terrified.

“Four!”

And Logan would probably talk him out of this mess while Roman would threaten the man who threatened them.

“Five!”

Just the thought of their names was enough to bring tears to his eyes.

“Six!”

He couldn't do this...

“Seven!”

He couldn't kill someone, it just wasn't in him.

“Eight!”

Now what? What could he do?

“Nine!”

He had to come up with something quick, he couldn't kill, he didn't want to become someone the others feared.

“Ten!”

It was too late for second thoughts.

Virgil immediately turned on his heel and—

“No, stop!!”

A familiar voice yelled from afar.

Virgil gasped, his guard and focus no longer his top priority.

“Pat—”

Bang!

The sound of a gunshot echoed.
