Requested by Coconut1103 I hope you like it, it was a bit rushed so it may be a little bad. Thank you again for the request!

Logan had to agree that he had left too early. Of course he was saddened at first, being separated from the one he loved, but he grew to accept it. And for a moment he was happy that he was able to still keep an eye out for him, and in a way he was also able to protect him.

Patton had this thing where if he were in any public place, something bad would happen. Sometimes he'd fall or almost get himself killed. Other times he would endanger others around him, but that all changed when Virgil came along. When his husband had left town after his passing he pondered about what he was planning to do, he was extremely anxious for him and wanted so desperately to reach out for him and encase him in his arms, but when he saw him entering an orphanage he calmed down and watched.

Logan watched as Patton handed a few papers over to some lady at a desk, the lady nodded and then led him over to a room where a tiny, two year old boy sat at the corner of his dark room, hugging himself. Trembling.

In an instant Logan knew what Patton was going to do.

Before he had passed away they had talked about raising a family of their own, for a while they had done their research. And that was when they found out about Virgil who was involved in an accident that killed both his parents and left him in a comatose state, as a result he was left mute, unable to speak. Patton had wanted to adopt him right then and there, but Logan was not ready, he had promised that they would start their family soon, it just wasn't the right time yet.

So they waited..

And then Logan suddenly passed away, and it seemed that their dream to raise a family was abandoned.

Logan soon found that his doubts were proven wrong because as soon as Patton knelt down to console the trembling toddler he knew in that moment that Patton was not going to give up on what they first planned.

He watched as Patton filled out Virgil's adoption papers, giving him his last name that he stayed with. Logan was happy for that. Even after his death Patton still stayed with his last name, and now his child would bear his last name as well.

And Logan watched from above.

Watched as Patton took Virgil home.

Watched as Patton taught Virgil how to sign.

Watched Virgil sign his first 'dad' to Patton.

Watched as Virgil grew up to an energetic five year old.

Watched how happy his husband was, and how happy their child had become.

For those three years Logan was able to finally feel at peace, ever since he had died his soul had been restless and overly anxious. He was scared for his husband, scared about what he would do as he mourned. But, seeing how strong he was through it all and even brought himself to raise a child all on his own proved that Logan had married the right man.

So, one night, as his husband and child slept side by side, Patton holding Virgil to his chest, and Virgil clinging to him. Logan found the strength and courage to drift down to the earth and into the darkly lit room, he settled himself at the edge of the bed and watched. Virgil shifted unconsciously in his father's arms and scrunched up his small kitten like nose, with much effort he peeled his eyes open, revealing huge dark brown eyes, Logan swore, if he could breathe, the breath would've been knocked out of him.

For a moment they just stared at each other, Logan wondered if Virgil could actually seem him which in his case would be impossible. He was dead, no one would be able to see him....

Right?

Virgil quietly gasped and wiggled himself out of Patton's arms, he sat crisscrossed in front of Logan and smiled cutely. He hurriedly placed the thumb of his right hand against his forehead, his fingers splayed out. Logan returned the smile and with transparent hands pointed at Virgil, made the sign for 'baby' keeping his left arm in front of torso making it look like he were cradling a baby and then made the sign for 'male' looking like a salute with his right hand . He then saluted from his forehead to the crook of his left elbow. Virgil visibly beamed and placed the fingers of his right hand near his lips. Keeping his hand flat. And then he moved his hand forward to Logan.

The spirit frowned. "What are you thanking me for?" He questioned curiously.

Virgil looked over to his other father who still slept soundly and then back at Logan.

He made the sign for F with each of his hands, making a circle with his thumb and index finger, and extending his other three fingers. He started with the two circles on each hand touching and then circled the two hands around as if he were outlining a group of people.

Logan understood.

Virgil was thankful for his family.

"While I'm away, do you think you can watch over your daddy and uncles for me?" Logan asked.

Virgil nodded, mouth open agape.

"You have to promise, with all your heart." Once again Virgil nodded quickly and crossed his heart.

Logan chuckled and sighed longingly. It was almost time for him to go, he had a limit.

He put up his thumb, index finger and pinkie finger, while keeping his ring finger and middle finger down. He then held his hand out, palm facing away from him, and moved it back and forth slightly.

Virgil scooted closer to him and reached for his transparent hand.

Logan tensed, knowing well enough that Virgil wouldn't be able to-

A small, tiny hand held his wrist...

Logan looked bewilderingly at his adoptive son and tried his best not to freak out.

This...

This was impossible!

Yet, there they were. Virgil holding his hand. Smiling that beautiful smile of his.

Logan, with a trembling hand, cupped his cheek and let out a shaky laugh.

"I have to go now son." He stated.

Virgil pouted, but then he nodded reluctantly, understanding that his other daddy belonged in heaven.

He let go of his wrist, Logan let his hand slip away as he faded.

Virgil waved him off and opened his mouth as if to say something.

And just as he was about to speak..

Logan vanished. And soon he found himself back in the heavens where he belonged.

The spirit, somehow, was shaken.

Because, for the first time in three years,

Virgil had finally spoken.

And his first words were something Logan would never forget for all his eternity.

Those few simple words.

"I love you too."
