rachel's pov

"what the hell is going on?" i whisper to luke, who's stood on my right as soon as calum arrives with said-child.

"it's not his fault." luke whispered. "i didn't think this would be why he didn't show up on time, but it all kind of makes sense now."

"explain, hemmings." i glared.

"that's calum's niece, hazel." luke explains. "his sister, mali-koa, needs calum's help her out when it comes to taking care of hazel. they're all they have, each other."

"if you think i'm upset, i'm not." i state. "if anything, i can understand this better than any of the people in this room. did you forget that my mother is jessica fallon-alvarado, the CEO of fallon cosmetics? sure she ran her company, but when things were big for her, she nor my father were ever around. just me and my sister kate. we were all we had, each other. it's not like that anymore. i don't have anyone, but that's besides the point."

"they're going to wind up getting hazel hurt." luke sighed.

"watch and learn, hemmo." i patted his chest, stepping into the highest platform available to me. "listen up! unless you want your asses kicked out from this venue, i suggest you leave mr hood and his niece be and take your seats, immediately!"

did i mention a part of my reputation at such a young age was putting the press in their place? because if not, that's one thing that you should know.

"damn rach, that sure was something." luke chuckled.

"just doing what i do best." i winked.

"miss alvarado." a new voice, rather an old one approached, having belonged to calum.

"hood, glad you could make it." i nodded. "and who is this little cutie?"

"this is my niece, hazel." he smiled. "haz, say hi to miss alvarado. she's one of my business partners."

"sweetie, call me rachel, you're going to make me feel old at twenty." i laughed. "only your uncle has to call me that."

"hi miss rachel." she smiled.

"hello miss hazel." i smiled. "now, why don't you go with luke over there and take a seat. you can take my chair in between him and your uncle, alright?"

the pair nodded and scurried over to their seats, whilst i made my way back up to the front with calum.

"listen here hood, everything is set in stone with the press release already." i whispered. "all that has to be done is answer to the press a bit more and then you're done."

after that, the press release was a success.
