Chapter Seventeen

The next morning I woke up to the smell of cooking pancakes from my kitchen. I had been locked up in my room until dinner the previous day and my Mom still wasn't acting very pleasantly towards me. I was overly surprised she actually made breakfast, usually when she was angry with me she'd take it out on my appetite forcing me to make whatever food I wanted to eat. That was pretty how much dinner worked out, Benjamin got to eat my Mom's favorite pasta while I settled with a ham and cheese sandwich.

I glanced over at the clock to see it was only half past nine so I rolled back on my side to retrieve my phone. I had a missed text from Liam so I opened the message and began to read.

Liam: Hey, Alex. I left a message on your home phone. Call me back when ever you can x

I couldn't help but wonder what he wanted, it was never a bore with Liam he always had something up his sleeve to ask me whether it be climbing up a wall of rocks or sitting in the backyard of a party. I plugged my phone back into its charger and decided to get up a bit early so maybe I could convince myself to finish some homework later.

I took a quick shower and stayed in my towel sitting on the floor of my bathroom scrolling through my apps trying to enteratain myself as I put off the day.

"Alex if you want breakfast you better be down soon!" I heard my Mom call through my door. I finally decided to get myself off the floor to change into some sweats and a t shirt. I didn't even bother to put on any makeup before I just threw my damp hair up into a low bun. I grabbed my slippers and slipped them off my feet before I ran down stairs to greet my family all sitting at the kitchen table. "About time," My Mom said sighing before getting up to grab the pancakes from the island.

"Sorry, I had to shower." I said trying to console her without getting her more angry.

"Liam called," She changed the subject serving a pancake to my father then Benjamin.

"Yeah he told me."

"You should probably give him a call back," She suggested finally giving me a pancake.

"I was planning on it."

"You should try and see Charlotte some time soon, I thought you'd be coming back with her from the party or something." My Dad and brother stayed silent as I listened to my Mom drop hints about how she was still angry about my disappearance that night.

"Charlotte really hasn't been around much,' My Dad finally agreed with a mouthful of pancakes.

"I saw her at the party," I shrugged taking a forkfull of my pancake.

"Oh and I suspect she didn't stop you from going home with this friend of yours?" My Mom taunted even more taking another mouthful of her breakfast.

"May I be excused?" I asked dropping my fork onto my plate and wiping my mouth with the napkin.

"No you will stay seated with your family until you finish your breakfast." My Mom instructed me.

"I'm not hungry and I've got loads of homework." She sighed as I picked up my dish from the table and put it into the sink then going back upstairs into my room. I couldn't help but overhear my Mom telling my father how she was worried I was spending too much time with this friend of mine.

As I made my way upstairs I took my phone from my bed side table and began to dial Liam's number.

A few rings went by before Liam picked up, asking me a question right away.

"Where'd you go friday night?" He asked me.

"Hello to you too," I laughed tucking my legs into my chest as I sat onto my bed.
