I want you to be strong. Please, promise me you'll stay alive no matter what."

"I Promise." She whispered, intertwining her pinky finger with Jiro's, both limbs releasing energy incomparable to a million earthquakes.

It was when the wall at the opposite end of the hallway burst into pieces of flying matter that Jiro somehow swallowed every ounce of regret he had carried in his life, and turned to face the crazed beasts that came his way.

The girl's lower lip trembled violently, an unwelcomed sense of fear crawling up her legs, gluing them to the floor.

"You protected me when I was on the verge of losing myself." Jiro whispered, squeezing her hand inside his before securing her position behind his back.

"It's my turn to protect you."

~~~
"Jiro-"
"Stay behind me, Emi. No matter what happens, don't use your trinity reaper."
The blond reassured, the smile on his face shining brighter than ever before, although laced with a certain kind of sadness that Emi couldn't quite define.
"Everything will be over soon."
Jiro looked like a titan as he turned to face the dust cloud that had just emerged, bits of matter flying everywhere as he settled his trembling fingers into tight fists.
Then, piled like starving wilderbeasts after defenseless sheep a horde of ghouls emerged from the crater on the wall, their kagune at full swing and eyes shining like demons. Every vein inside him trembled as Jiro took one last breath before squaring his shoulders, forcing his erratic heart to slow down and a wave of resolve to wash over his features.
As the beasts rushed toward them at blinding speed he found himself unable to think of any other alternative. Silently begging for forgiveness once again, he felt the familiar yet unwelcomed feeling of his skin melting from his bones and the pressure he most hated surging from inside his stomach.
After all those years, it was time for Emi to meet the real Jiro.
And, with no other thought in his mind but to protect the girl at all costs, Jiro fed himself to the monster that clung to his intestines.
